This NFL season we’ve all watched our teams fight, some with even more tenacity than the rest. Some roared mightily and others have fallen far from their former star. It’s been a long season for many teams who in hindsight have wasted their resources on overpriced things.

Of course it means some other lucky teams get to follow up on their dreams. There is no doubt they will perform playoff heroics your team knows little about.

Watch them gloat their way to the big party. Hoisting the trophy of a guy named Lombardi.

And we watch with a glower. Or we don’t with a scowl.

We’ve all been sidelined in agony at some point. Many of us are there now.

There’s No Place Like Hope

But this time of year brings hope. Hope comes in the form of the NFL regular season’s closing credits, and then we blink a few times and it gets pinned on the next season’s opening ones.

But between those blinky times where the future meets the past there’s the NFL draft. It’s here before you know. And all teams have the chance to grow.

This holiday season let there be some glimmer of what many haven’t seen in years. After the cruel season ends and the draft begins, let there be some brilliant moves by the football dudes. It wouldn’t be such a shame if they picked a few for the Hall of Fame.

But let’s not get greedy, we’d settle for a playoff seedy. And about seven guys who don’t have selfish in their eyes. And they play with heart right from the start.

If the whole thing doesn’t work we’ll try again next season. It’s been our motto for good reason.

And when the season of next starts again let there be peace on earth so my team can finally win!
