The 2023 NFL season is officially over. It is draft season! The New England Patriots have entered a new era. Bill Belichick is no longer the head coach for the first time in over 20 years. Jerod Mayo takes over and tries to restore the franchise to its former glory. There are a lot of holes to fill, but an already stingy defense gives the team hope. Here is the New England Patriots 2024 NFL Draft guide.

New England Patriots 2024 NFL Draft Picks

The New England Patriots have seven picks in the 2024 NFL Draft.

  • Round 1: No. 3 overall
  • Round 2: No. 34 overall
  • Round 3: No. 68 overall
  • Round 4: No. 104 overall
  • Round 5: No. 136 overall
  • Round 6: No. 182 overall
  • Round 7: No. 229 overall (via Chicago)

The New England Patriots have three picks in the top 100, which will help replenish the roster. The seventh-round pick they gained was in the N’Keal Harry trade, but otherwise, they own their own picks. It is unclear exactly how they are planning to use the third overall pick. Some have suggested they could trade down for more draft capital. It all depends on how they view the quarterbacks available at three.

New England Patriots NFL Draft Needs

The New England Patriots need the following positions: QB, WR, OT, EDGE, TE

The New England Patriots need help on offense. They need a reset at the quarterback position and haven’t had a dynamic receiver since Randy Moss. New England needs to rebuild their offensive line to protect their new quarterback as well. Weapons are needed across the board.

On the defensive side of the ball, having some edge depth would be beneficial, but this unit doesn’t need too many pieces. Again, depth is nice, but Christian Gonzalez looked amazing before his injury. Matthew Judon was also having a great season before injury, and the team hopes both of those players are back healthy in 2024.

Mock drafts are done on NFL Mock Draft Database. No trades were executed. Obviously, teams tend to wheel and deal, but this is meant to give a look at what the team can do with the draft capital they currently have.

It’s offense, offense, and more offense for the New England Patriots. I understand the arguments for trading back and taking a swing on Bo Nix, Michael Penix Jr., or one of the other quarterbacks, but history says to take Daniels here. It is much easier to find a late-round receiver than it is to find a late-round quarterback. Puka Nacua was a fifth-round pick last year and broke rookie records.

Morgan is one of the top offensive linemen in the class, and getting Sanders at the tight end position gives the Patriots a solid young core. They don’t completely forget about the defense. I see them taking some swings on some talent to add some depth.

The New England Patriots cannot have another season with Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe. It is time to take a swing at a quarterback. Even if Daniels isn’t the guy, he will provide some excitement for a few years.
