New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo missed Monday night’s 9-7 victory over the Washington Nationals due to a sudden health scare that occurred overnight. Nimmo fainted in his hotel room, causing him to hit his head during the fall.
Incident Details
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza provided details about the incident, explaining that Nimmo had cut his forehead but fortunately did not suffer a concussion. “He went through all the tests this morning,” Mendoza said. “We wanted to make sure we weren’t missing anything. Luckily, everything came back negative, so I think we got lucky there.”
Nimmo recounted that he woke up feeling unwell around 5:15 a.m. and went to the bathroom. He experienced severe cramps and subsequently fainted. Upon regaining consciousness, Nimmo found himself on the floor, bleeding from the head, without understanding the cause. He immediately called the Mets’ trainers, who quickly arrived to assist him.
Medical Evaluation and Precautionary Measures
Following the incident, Nimmo was taken to the hospital for a series of tests, including a CT scan, to rule out any serious injury. He managed to arrive at the ballpark before game time and spoke to reporters with a bandage on his forehead. As a precaution, Nimmo was not available to play that night but expressed hope to return to the lineup soon.
“He’s got a pretty big cut,” Mendoza noted, highlighting the visible impact of the fall.
Nimmo’s Season Performance
Brandon Nimmo has been a crucial player for the Mets over his nine-season tenure with the team. The 31-year-old outfielder is currently hitting .247 with 13 home runs, a team-high 50 RBIs, and a .815 OPS in 77 games this season. His consistent performance has made him a strong candidate for his first All-Star selection this month.
Just the day before the incident, Nimmo hit his 100th career home run and contributed an RBI double during the Mets’ 10-5 loss to Houston in 11 innings.
Team Adjustments
In Nimmo’s absence, Jeff McNeil started in left field as the Mets commenced their four-game series against the Nationals. The team is hopeful for Nimmo’s quick recovery and return to the field, where he continues to play an important role in their lineup.
