The Memphis Showboats had a media availability on May 8, 2025. Here’s some information from a key defensive and offensive contributor.
Jaylon Allen, Edge Rusher, back in Memphis, said he was glad to be home again. “After the three weeks on the road, they always show me much love.” Before coming to the Showboats, Allen was with the Memphis Tigers playing on this same field- he was second-team All-AAC this year. Asked about the defensive schemes, he says, “Yes, Coach Horton’s defense we have to be quick to react. I Take my opportunities when they come.”
Wes Hills rammed the Showboats for three touchdowns in Game 5 in the 2024 season. The other time he played the Showboats, on May 18th (about a year ago) was when he injured his quadriceps. Hillis talked about “the long journey back and the focus on football required to reach this point. He was excited to be in Coach Mazzones offense and thought it suited his talents a little better than with the Michigan Panthers (his 2024 team). “Wills mentioned the phone call from Coach Turner and said that when a coach believes in you, you’ll run through a wall for them.” Wills was on the squad only 3 days last week, before being a key contributor last week in his first game for the Showboats. He mentioned being “excited to play the St. Louis Battlehawks, and knows they have a really good offense.”
Both of these key contributors will have to produce to take the Showboats to a victory against the on May 11, 2025, on Mother’s Day.
