Fans of Manchester City are feeling pretty good about themselves these days, especially this day. They’ve officially won their third straight Premier League title, and their fifth title in the last six years.
Haaland shattered it in his first season
Who wouldn’t be feeling good with Erling Haaland leading your team? He’s the Premier League’s most prolific player. The 22-year-old Norwegian striker took full command of the league. Breaking the record for the most goals in a season was no easy feat, but Haaland shattered it in his first season with a mind-numbing 36 goals. Harry Kane came in second place in scoring with a respectable 28.
If people thought before the season that he wasn’t worth the money, they’re probably still busy reeling it back in. Haaland scored more goals than the sum of three full clubs and tied Chelsea.
Let’s not forget about the unselfishness of the team. The guys feeding him the ball so many times certainly deserve recognition, particularly Kevin de Bruyne. He led the league in assists with 16, with the next closest player in the league getting just 10. Haaland even had seven.
The last game against Chelsea wasn’t as close as the 1-0 final score. Chelsea was on their heels pretty much from the beginning, only regrouping to lose possession for extensive periods of time. It should have been 2-0 if not for an ill-timed hand ball. They won regardless.
He’s as reliable as they come
Even with prior knowledge, the fans couldn’t hold themselves back as the entire pitch became overwhelmed with sky-blue hue on the heels of the final whistle. The players either fled or got encompassed by the masses with their security escorts in tow. Haaland’s appearance was comically ragged from his unkempt hair which was redirected from its fixture through the physicality of the match.
Despite the notable play of Haaland, the Dutchman Nathan Aké isn’t so bad himself. He’s the imposing 28-year-old Centre-back who scored against Westham earlier this month, and as reliable as they come on defense.
During the victory celebration, Haaland was undeniably giddy with excitement. He belted out the chorus with the crowd while being sprayed down with champaign. Then, he declared his love for Jack Grealand while dropping the F-bomb on international TV in one fell swoop.
Manchester City raised the Premier League trophy for the third consecutive time after playing their last soccer game of the season at Etihad Stadium. Ultimately, they got their first win in what could be a historic treble.
