Kalani Sitake will stay in Provo with the Cougars after Penn State attempted to make him their new head coach. BYU proved that just because one team wants your head coach, they will do anything to keep a winning coach.
After about a week of talking with Penn State and them trying to poach him from BYU with a big contract, he will stay in Provo. The Ninnaty Lions search will continue after being denied by Sitake. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day leaders, Brian Santiago, and the boosters stepped up to get him a bigger contract to keep him at BYU. This next season will be his tenth year in Provo and his fourth coaching in the Big 12. He has his staff, players, and also the support from the fans and the school for him to take this team to levels that Coach Edwards did.
Kalani Sitake Coaching Career
Kalani Sitake played for Lavell Edwards from 1998-2000 as a fullback for the Cougars. He then played a year in the pros from there his coaching career began. Sitake was an assistant coach for Eastern Arizona, BYU, SUU, Utah, and Oregon State. In 2016 he began the BYU head coaching job that made him the first polynesian head coach in college football history. From there he made BYU home again for him and his family. He has coached in 127 games so far and has won 83 of those matchups. Sitake has now 12 players from BYU in the NFL and plenty more to come over the years.
The Cougars are set to take on Texas Tech for the second time this Saturday. The game is at 11am CST for the Big 12 Championship game. They are also again in the talks for a potential College Football Playoff birth as the Cougars are 11-1 this year.
