In an unexpected turn of events, Ian Rapoport reported that the Washington Commanders are engaging in talks to trade Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jonathan Allen. Allen has spent all eight seasons of his NFL career in Washington, totaling over 400 tackles and 42 sacks. With one year left on his current contract, Allen is set to have a $15 million cap hit in 2025. With Jonathan Allen on the market, there are a few top trade destinations that could use a player of his caliber.

Jonathan Allen Top Trade Destinations

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers outperformed expectations in 2024, especially on defense. They found surplus value in veteran interior defensive lineman Poona Ford, who produced almost 40 tackles and three sacks. With Ford set to hit free agency, L.A. could be interested in adding Jonathan Allen to their ranks. Rumors have surfaced recently that the Chargers may release edge rusher Joey Bosa. Could Bosa instead be part of a trade package for Jonathan Allen?

Baltimore Ravens

If Jonathan Allen is seeking a contender as one of his top trade destinations, the Baltimore Ravens could be his best fit. Baltimore’s defense improved dramatically in the second half of the 2024 season, but it’s hard to imagine the Ravens turning down a shot at Jonathan Allen. Pairing Allen with Nnamdi Madubuike would give Baltimore one of the most dominant interior defensive lineman duos in the league. If the Ravens can find the cap space to add Allen, they should seriously consider doing so.

Dallas Cowboys

In-division trades are rare, but this pairing makes as much sense as any. The Dallas Cowboys are in desperate need of a winning season after a disappointing 2024 campaign. One of the Cowboys’ primary needs is at the interior of the defensive line. Adding Jonathan Allen would take pressure off of Mazi Smith, allowing him to focus more on stopping the run. If Dallas restructures a few contracts, they can free up space to add Allen and still sign other starters in free agency.
