Miami Heat superstar Jimmy Butler has debuted an all-new hairdo.
The 34-year-old phenom showed off the new look to the world on the team’s Media Day, which took place yesterday. His new hairstyle consists of a straightened fringe in an emo style. He also embraced his inner emo by sporting piercings and painting his nail stubs black.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah, laugh it up,” Butler said. “I’m emo. This is my emotional state, I’m at one with my emotions so this is what you get.”
Butler’s hair looks completely different from his usual short hair that the world is used to. This isn’t a new trend, though, as he also showed up to Media Day last year with fake dreadlocks. They didn’t last throughout the season, but did make their way into his media headshots. Unfortunately, similar to last year, the emo look was just for show and did not last.
Caught Off-Guard
Even Butler’s teammates were caught off-guard when he walked into the clubhouse yesterday. “That is not real…That is f***in hilarious,” Bam Adebayo said. Tyler Herro commented that “He told me this was his Halloween today.”
On a more serious note, Butler was asked about the Heat missing out on phenom Damian Lillard, whom they were linked to. Lillard expressed interest in wanting to be traded to Miami back in July, but ended up being traded from Portland to the Bucks a few days ago, in a move that shocked the NBA world.
“I am happy for Dame to be somewhere he is wanted, where he has a chance to win a championship,” said Butler. “[But] I know what my guys are capable of. So we’ll continue to play basketball as a unit, as a team and somehow some way end up in the Finals. This time we’re gonna win it. And y’all will say we got lucky.”
The Heat will play their first game of the NBA preseason on October 10 against the Hornets. Their first official matchup of the regular season will be at home on October 25, against the Pistons.
