The New York Jets are a dumpster fire in 2023.
The squad lost their second straight game, dropping last night’s Sunday Night matchup to the Las Vegas Raiders 16-12. The game was an offensive slog, seeing only one (1) touchdown the entire game. That one belonged to Michael Mayer of the Raiders in the fourth quarter to put them up 16-9.
Wiped Off
The rest of the game consisted of field goals. Earlier in the game, Jets QB Zach Wilson ran the ball into the end zone for a pylon touchdown. This would have put the Jets up 12-6 at the time. However, Wilson stepped slightly out of bounds, resulting in the touchdown being wiped off the board, and the Jets settled for a field goal to make it 9-6.
But the game was a failure for the Jets as Zach Wilson ran for over 250 yards, yet his team failed to score a touchdown. He became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for at least 250 yards in back-to-back games, yet have his team not score a touchdown in those affairs. The Jets’ last two games have been prime-time games, and they’ve both been losses.
The Lesser Team?
Vegas had fewer yards per play, fewer passing yards, fewer total yards, more times sacked, and more turnovers than the Jets. Yet, they still found a way to beat them, leaving New York in a not-so-great football situation.
Jets coach Robert Saleh had some tough words for Wilson after the loss. “To give a full assessment on Zach, I think it’d be fair to ask for everyone around him to play a little bit better,” he said. “Especially with the penalties, but overall, I thought he did a decent job.”
The Jets have not scored a touchdown in their last 36 possessions. Sitting at 4-5, and frustrations mounting, they will take on the 5-4 Buffalo Bills on Sunday, no easy task.
