Kansas City Chiefs

What is going on with the 2025 Kansas City Chiefs? The once superior team led by a generational quarterback talent in Patrick Mahomes has now dwindled into mediocrity.

The Chiefs find themselves (0-2) with a ton of questions surrounding the current state of the team. From a struggling signal caller all the way to an ineffective tight end, this team needs to do some soul-searching.

Let’s take a look at how the 2025 Kansas City Chiefs can figure out a way to turn their season around in a positive direction.

The Kansas City Chiefs have had no help from their Offense

For a better part of their dynasty, the Kansas City Chiefs’ offense has been potent, but this year, not so much. Everything starts and stops with the quarterback, and Mahomes had looked mid in the first two games of the young season.

In Week 2 against the Philadelphia Eagles, Mahomes completed only 16 of 29 passes for 187 yards. He also threw for one touchdown, with one interception. Additionally, he missed some wide-open throws, including a ball that tight end Travis Kelce should have caught.

Besides the quarterback’s deficiency, he has a troubling supporting cast around him as well. The Chiefs’ starting five on the offensive line has been a disaster. Their wide receiver room is depleted more than ever, with Xavier Worthy injured and Rashee Rice suspended.

Travis Kelce is not as Reliable as he once was for the Chiefs

Perhaps the biggest fish that is still raw for the Kansas City Chiefs is the fact that Kelce is starting to slow down due to aging. For starters, he turned a possible touchdown catch into an interception when the ball bobbled off his hands in a situational moment in the fourth quarter last week.

Additionally, tracing back to Week 1, he was confused about which route to run. As a result, he ran into his own teammate, Xavier Worthy. While it’s clear he’s getting up there in age, Kelce still needs to stay focused and keep his head in the game, focusing on winning another Super Bowl.

Despite all of that, the 35-year-old will still go down as one of the two greatest NFL tight ends to play in his generation. The other being, of course, Mr. USAA and Fox host Rob Gronkowski.

Chiefs’ luck of winning one-score games might be fading away

The Chiefs have been the kings of winning one-score games during their last two seasons, refusing to bend the knee and apologize for it. The mainstream narrative has been that they are just a good team. Good teams have traditionally found ways to win one-score games.

Still, there is luck involved with the skill of winning these games. For the last two years, the Chiefs have had good luck in finding ways to win tight games.

This year, however, it looks like after two games, they are now running into some bad luck by losing two close games to two battle-tested teams.

In 2024, the Chiefs were 13-0 (counting the postseason) in games resolved by eight points or less. It also contains a 5-0 record in contests resolved by three points or less.

Even though they’ve been in a lot of one-score games, close only counts in horseshoes. Right now, this team is 0-2 and is looking very vulnerable. It’s a huge fish that still needs to be cooked.

Let’s see what coach Andy Reid and the Chiefs do this week to prepare and stay competitive in the AFC West.
