The 2023 NFL season is officially over. It is draft season! The Houston Texans were one of the best stories of the 2023 season. C.J. Stroud broke rookie records and looks to be the quarterback of the future. DeMeco Ryans looked good in his first head coaching position, and his defense improved a lot. They go into 2024 with expectations, and they need to nail the draft in order to continue building the foundation of the franchise. Here is the Houston Texans 2024 NFL Draft guide.

The Houston Texans have eight picks in the 2024 NFL Draft.

  • Round 1: No. 23 overall (via Cleveland)
  • Round 2: No. 59 overall
  • Round 3: No. 86 overall (via Philadelphia)
  • Round 4: No. 124 overall
  • Round 4: No. 128 overall (via Cleveland)
  • Round 7: No. 236 overall
  • Round 7: No. 245 overall
  • Round 7: No. 250 overall

For the Houston Texans, the Deshaun Watson trade keeps on giving. While they traded their own first-round pick to select Will Anderson Jr. last year, they have Cleveland’s first-round pick. They get a fourth-rounder from the Browns as well. Most of their other draft capital either came in or left during last year’s draft. The team will look to continue to build the foundation of this young team.

Houston Texans NFL Draft Needs

The Houston Texans need the following positions: WR, EDGE, DL, CB. OT

This team needs more talent on defense. They were able to get by last year thanks to excellent coaching, but they need more talent behind Will Anderson Jr. Getting another quality edge rusher to be opposite the reigning Defensive Rookie of the Year is a top priority.

The Houston Texans shouldn’t forget about the offense. Nico Collins and Tank Dell are quality receivers, but the team needs some depth. If they can find a quality wide receiver in this draft, their offense will be even more deadly. They also need to start thinking about life after Laremy Tunsil, and I expect them to take an offensive lineman late in the draft.

DeMeco Ryans goes defense in the first round. Murphy is one of the best defensive tackles in the class. His motor is relentless, and he would be a perfect fit for the defense. In the fourth round, the team picks back-to-back corners in Melton and Jackson to try and get some depth at the position. This draft assumes two things for the Texans.

The first is they go and get a few offensive weapons in free agency. Houston has one of the best assets in football: a quarterback on a rookie deal who is outperforming his deal. They should begin to move some chips in. The second is they believe in C.J. Stroud‘s ability to elevate the players around him. The Houston Texans don’t need to go out and get a ton of weapons because Stroud can raise the floor of the roster around him.

The Houston Texans may be a trendy AFC pick in 2024, depending on how the offseason goes. Things are finally looking up for this franchise, and with another solid draft, they could see even more success next season.
