It’s playoff time for the UFL, folks. The 10 weeks have mostly flown by, and another exciting regular season of the spring league is in the books. Let’s recap the Memphis Showboats and Houston Roughnecks game on June 2nd. After that, we’ll discuss my Week 10 predictions and cover the first round of playoff predictions. Let’s get into it!
Memphis Showboats and Houston Roughnecks In Week 10
It’s no secret that I’m a less-than-subtle Houston Roughnecks supporter. They let me down for the last time in the 2023-2024 season. Let’s talk about the Memphis Showboats motorboating the Roughnecks to a loss. I’m blaming this L on the decision to play Houston QB Nolan Henderson over Reid Sinnett.
1st Half
Memphis literally kicked off the game with a successful field goal on behalf of kicker Matt Coghlin. Nolan Henderson almost nailed a TD to humble Tennessee until a PI call completely disrupted the flow of the play. The whole debacle ended in a nothingburger.
The second quarter was similarly anti-climatic. The Roughnecks trashed any possibilities they had, being physically incapable of moving from the red zone to the end zone. J.J. Molson, the unsung hero of Houston, got a field goal. Matt Coghlin also wracked up another field goal. The flat first half ended 6-3.
2nd Half
Houston seemingly woke up in the second half, giving us all a sense of false hope. Henderson finally got a TD. Also, Roughnecks safety Markel Roby intercepted the ball for the third time this season. The TD Roby almost had got nixed because of another penalty, but Houston was so close.
J.J. Molson made another solid field goal, but it wouldn’t be enough. The Memphis Showboats won the game fair and square, with a solid final quarter TD and a successful one-point conversion. The game ended with Memphis running down the clock. If the Roughnecks hadn’t been so messy with the penalties, the 19-12 outcome in the Showboats favor may not have been so.
Week 10 Prediction Review
How right was I last week when predicting the Week 10 results (find them here)? Let’s find out!
Boom-boom. My Saturday game predictions were 100% right. The Stallions and the Battlehawks won! My Sunday predictions were 100% wrong, thanks to D.C. and Houston. I’m finishing out my final regular season prediction at 50%. Boo!
Post-Season UFL Predictions
Neither of the teams we covered this week will be in the post-season. In the USFL Conference, we have the once-defeated Birmingham Stallions (9-1) and the Michigan Panthers (7-3). They will be playing on June 8th on Saturday at 3 PM ET on Birmingham soil.
Call me uncreative, but the Stallions literally just beat the Panthers in Week 10. Granted, it was only by one point, but Birmingham doesn’t make a habit of losing to anyone. I hand this conference championship win to Alabama.
The XFL conference is much more evenly matched. The San Antonio Brahmas (7-3) and St. Louis Battlehawks (7-3) will face off on Sunday, June 9th, at 7 p.m. ET in Missouri.
Every time they play, the Battlehawks have won against the Brahmas. Patterns matter. I’m giving this one to St. Louis for that reason alone. Don’t agree with me? Let me know why below. While you’re here, don’t forget to look at other great UFL content at The Forkball here.
