Heisman Watch

Jalen Milroe, Travis Hunter, Cam Ward, Jeremiah Smith, and Ashton Jeanty have big weeks and are the top five in the race for the most prestigious individual award in sports; the Heisman Trophy.

Heisman Standouts from Week 5

Jalen Milroe

Milroe had the best week of just about anyone in college football and had a Heisman moment game in the win over Georgia. He was 27 of 33 for 374 yards and two touchdowns in the air. He was just as much of a problem rushing with 16 carries for 117 yards and two more touchdowns in the instant classic against Georgia.

Travis Hunter

Hunter had nine catches for 89 yards and a touchdown on offense but his highlight of the night came on defense. Hunter made a ridiculous diving interception. He continues to contribute on both sides of the ball in a way never seen before.

Cameron Ward

Ward was 24 of 38 for 343 yards and five total touchdowns in Miami’s thrilling come-from-behind win over Virginia Tech. This was a win that Miami, Ward, and Cristobal needed and it kept their national hopes alive. Both for the College Football Playoffs and the Heisman trophy.

Ashton Jeanty

Jeanty is just running over everyone and Washington State was no exception. He had 26 carries for 259 yards and four touchdowns as the Broncos stampeded the Cougars 45-24, handing them their first loss of the year.

Jeremiah Smith

He had six touches for 102 yards and two touchdowns most them worthy of top ten plays of the week across college football. Ohio State has had four first round draft picks at wide receiver in the previous three seasons and Jeremiah Smith is better than any of them right now than they were when they left WRU.

Heisman Leaders

1. Travis Hunter, Colorado, Wide Receiver/ Cornerback, Junior

Hunter has 46 catches for 561 yards and six touchdowns on offense and 16 tackles, the passes defended, a forced fumble, and two interceptions on defense. Hunter is having output greater than previous two-way players and Colorado wouldn’t be at the top of the Big 12 standings without him.

2. Jalen Milroe, Alabama, Quarterback, Redshirt Junior

So far he is 62 of 85 for 964 yards and 10 touchdowns passing. He is just as impressive rushing with 52 carries for 273 yards and eight touchdowns. At this pace, he’ll end up with 30 touchdowns through the air and 24 on the ground. Ridiculously good.

3. Ashton Jeanty, Boise State, Running Back, Junior

Jeanty has 82 carries for 845 yards and 13 touchdowns…in only four games! In four games Ashton Jeanty has done more than most running backs get to do in an entire season. At this rate, he’ll have 246 carries for 2,535 yards and 39 touchdowns, approaching the records set by Barry Sanders. He should get to New York and may carry Boise State to the playoffs.

4. Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State, Wide Receiver, Freshman

On the season he has 19 catches for 364 yards and six total touchdowns. Smith is on pace for 57 catches for 1,092 yards and 18 touchdowns.

5. Cam Ward, Miami, Quarterback, Senior

He is 113 of 161 for 1,782 yards and has 20 total touchdowns (18 passing) in 2024.
