In most seasons, it’s easy to pick out the most disappointing NFL fantasy football players. You can find them on my fantasy football team. However, this year, they are scattered on various rosters in the two leagues I play in. Of course, there is a difference between an actual winning player and a winning player in fantasy football. Here are my top five disappointing fantasy football players.

5: Kyle Pitts

Kyle isn’t having a terrible season, but it seems like he should have better stats. He has caught 35 passes for 494 yards and three TDs. His number of targets is down a fair bit this season. That’s a bit odd considering the Falcons’ passing game has seem a revival with the addition of Kirk as the Falcons’ QB. Oddly, Pitts’ three TDs match a career high. Kyle seems to be an underrated asset.

4: Christian McCaffrey:

For the last few seasons, it seems like McCaffery has been the consensus overall number one pick in fantasy football drafts. This year was no exception. I actually attempted to trade for McCaffery in one league. Thankfully the trade proposal was turned down. McCaffery has missed all but the last two games of the season due to injury. While there was some fear McCaffery might miss a game or two at the beginning of the season, few fantasy football players thought the situation would last so long. In McCaffery’s two games, he’s been good, not great. I doubt he will be a first overall choice in many 2025 fantasy football drafts.

3: Deebo Samuel:

The fact that there are two 49ers on this list is an indicator that this season hasn’t been smooth sailing for them. Samuel’s stats are way down this season. He’s scored only two TDs and the number of tackles he has broken is way down. Maybe the fact he’s 28 has something to do with it.

2: Aaron Rodgers

Actually, Rodgers may be worse than disappointing. After all, how high should expectations be for a 41-year-old QB? His 2024 QB rating sits at 88.9. For context, his career rating is 102.9. That’s a substantial drop-off. Rodgers days as a newsmaker in the NFL seem to be winding down. I don’t know how he will draw attention to himself when his playing days are over.

1: Patrick Mahomes

While Mahomes is having a down season statistically, the Chiefs are 9–1. Even in one of his lesser seasons, Mahomes is a winner. Mahomes has thrown 15 TD passes and 11 interceptions. Compare that with the 50 TD passes and 12 interceptions he threw in his first full season as the Chiefs’ starting QB. Mahomes is not the fantasy football god he was, but he’s still the QB I want on my NFL team in real life.
