The Atlanta Falcons dismissed assistant defensive line coach LaTroy Lewis on Friday after sexual assault allegations surfaced from his time at University of Michigan.

In a statement, the Falcons confirmed they were aware of the allegations before announcing Lewis’ termination. The Ann Arbor Police Department said it recently launched an investigation into a reported Dec. 5, 2024, incident. The case remains active.

Allegations and Responses

According to the accuser’s attorney, Karen Truszkowski, her client met Lewis through a dating app in July 2024 while he served on Michigan’s coaching staff. The attorney alleges that Lewis’ behavior grew increasingly aggressive before the two met in person at Weber’s Hotel in Ann Arbor in December. During that meeting, the woman alleges she was sexually assaulted.

Truszkowski said her client filed an incident report with Ann Arbor police and sought a protective order earlier this week.

Lewis’ attorney, Fabiola A. Galguera, denied the claims, stating that Lewis “intends to fiercely fight these false allegations.”

The woman also informed then-Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore about the alleged incident, according to her attorney. Moore’s attorney denied any wrongdoing, stating that Moore did not fail to report misconduct or harass anyone. Michigan spokesperson Paul Corliss described the allegations as “deeply concerning” and said the university’s broader review of Moore’s conduct and athletic department culture remains ongoing.

In a separate January 2025 incident, officers from the Milford Police Department responded to a disturbance call involving Lewis and the accuser. According to the report, both described the altercation as verbal, and no charges were filed at that time.

Coaching Background

Lewis, 32, joined the Falcons on Feb. 10 after coaching stops at Michigan, Toledo, and UConn. He previously played at University of Tennessee and appeared in two NFL games with the Houston Texans during the 2017 season.

The allegations mark the second off-field issue involving the Falcons organization in recent weeks, as the team continues to navigate legal matters tied to other personnel.

The investigation into Lewis remains ongoing, and no criminal charges have been announced.
