The Philadelphia Eagles have bolstered their receiving corps by acquiring wide receiver Jahan Dotson from the Washington Commanders. In exchange, the Eagles sent a third-round pick and two seventh-round picks in the 2025 NFL Draft to Washington. The deal also includes the Commanders sending a 2025 fifth-round pick to Philadelphia.

Dotson’s Role in Philadelphia

Dotson, a 2022 first-round pick, is expected to fill the Eagles’ No. 3 wide receiver role, complementing star receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, who signed long-term extensions this offseason. Dotson’s arrival adds another dynamic option for quarterback Jalen Hurts, who already has an arsenal of talent, including running back Saquon Barkley and tight end Dallas Goedert.

Before this trade, the Eagles rotated several players at the WR3 position during training camp, including veterans Parris Campbell and Britain Covey and rookie Johnny Wilson. Dotson, 24, brings more stability to the position after recording 49 receptions for 518 yards and four touchdowns with the Commanders last season.

Commanders’ Wide Receiver Depth

Dotson was drafted 16th overall by Washington in 2022 but struggled to establish himself as the team’s No. 2 receiver alongside Terry McLaurin. Over two seasons, Dotson caught 84 passes for 1,041 yards and 11 touchdowns in 29 games. Despite showing promise, his inconsistency, including a 7.4% drop rate last season (10th highest in the NFL), limited his impact.

Washington has been exploring their options at wide receiver throughout the summer, with head coach Dan Quinn noting they were still evaluating their No. 2 receiver. The Commanders also drafted Luke McCaffrey in the third round to potentially fill that role. McCaffrey impressed in a recent game against the Miami Dolphins, contributing two catches for 30 yards along with solid blocking and special teams play.

The Commanders also have veteran receivers Olamide Zaccheaus and Jamison Crowder available to play in the slot, along with recent additions Byron Pringle and Martavis Bryant, who bring experience and versatility to the roster. Pringle, in particular, could add value as a kick returner if he secures a spot on the team.
