Robert Saleh's Firing?

In a stunning news development on Tuesday, Oct. 8, the New York Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh five games into the season.

The firing came on the heels of a 23-17 loss in London on Sunday, Oct. 6, against the Minnesota Vikings.

Saleh was 20-36 in over four seasons as the Jets sideline boss but had the opportunity to end the longest playoff drought in the NFL by a single organization.

In addition, the defensive-minded coach had a successful track record as the San Francisco 49er’s defensive coordinator under head coach Kyle Shanahan.

What is next for the Jet’s franchise after Robert Saleh’s firing?

Was Robert Saleh’s Firing Timed Right?

For a team with few defensive problems under Saleh’s staff (which he was mainly running), it has primarily been OC Nathanial Hackett’s dilemma to juice up this offense led by quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Who has been seen in a delirious state of mind these last few years.

The Gang Green is the 12th-rated defense in the NFL, giving up the fifth-fewest points, while the offense has struggled at 23rd, averaging only 18.6 points per game.

Is Rodgers Controlling The Team?

It was believed that when the Jets traded for Rodgers, he wanted the team to capitulate to his needs rather than what the whole team needed.

Well, they have catered to his needs, and Saleh paid the price.

Hackett was obtained as his offensive coordinator, Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard, plus three other former Packer teammates, were hired, and even ex-Packers quarterback Tim Boyle was called in to be his backup.

So, I’m not sure what more Rodgers could have asked for, and it makes me wonder if this was more of a personal call over a personnel call.

Was There More Going On?

There was no doubt that Saleh and Rodgers had some issues.

They were seen on camera a few times interacting, which made many wonder if their association was tense.

The Jets can be as good as they want, but from here on, the success is still being carried on Rodger’s shoulders.

But with their bad record and owner Woody Johnson backing Rodgers over Saleh, it looks like Rodgers once again had another one of his needs catered to.

Where Do They Go From Here

Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich will take over as interim coach, and Hackett will remain offensive coordinator.

Therefore, Hackett must step up and get his offense ready to face the Buffalo Bills on Monday night in Week 6.

In my opinion, if Hackett doesn’t step up, who knows what Rodgers might do next?
