Free agency is rapidly approaching. For teams like the Dallas Cowboys who suffered poor finishes in 2024, free agency is an important opportunity to fill in holes that exist in the current roster. Dallas has weaknesses at nearly every position, so they’ll need to be aggressive this offseason. Here are a few of the Dallas Cowboys top free agent targets this year.

Dallas Cowboys Top Free Agent Targets

Khalil Mack

The Cowboys have been listed as a potential Myles Garrett trade destination. However, the Cowboys may be better suited spending their resources on an edge defender in free agency. Though Khalil Mack isn’t a perfect fit for Matt Eberflus’s 4-3 scheme, he is the best run-defending edge in free agency. The Cowboys showed consistent difficulty stopping the run in 2024. With Demarcus Lawrence likely on the way out, Dallas will need to add quality pieces on the edge. Mack could immediately fill in, adding younger players like Marshawn Kneeland to take time to develop.

Ronnie Stanley

If the Dallas Cowboys decide to replace Terrence Steele, Ronnie Stanley should be one of their top free agent targets. Stanley has been one of the top offensive linemen in the NFL for years. Offensive tackles of his caliber rarely hit the open market. Though Stanley could have multiple teams bidding for him, the Cowboys should throw their hat in the ring. Stanley could play left tackle in Dallas, allowing Tyler Guyton to move over to right tackle. If Dallas can add Stanley and find a quality guard through either free agency or the draft, they could have one of the best offensive lines in the league.

Will Fries

In the wake of Zack Martin’s retirement, the Cowboys have a major need at offensive guard. While they may not be able to replace Martin’s impact up front, there are a few options in free agency to fill the position. Former Colts guard William Fries should earn a long look from Dallas. In 2024, Fries received an overall grade of 86.4 from PFF. However, he suffered a fractured tibia in the middle of the season. While his injury may lower his market value, Fries should still have plenty of suitors in free agency. At just 26 years old, he could be a starter for the Cowboys for years to come.

Marquise “Hollywood” Brown with the Kansas City Chiefs – sportingnews.com

Marquise Brown

Due primarily to injury, Marquise Brown’s stint with the Kansas City Chiefs was a disappointment. Brown played just 164 snaps in 2024, with limited production. For a team with fairly limited financial flexibility like the Cowboys, Marquise Brown could be the perfect buy-low target. Dallas is in desperate need of adding receivers behind CeeDee Lamb. However, there are enough holes on this roster that the Cowboys may not choose to spend significant capital on a new wideout. Brown is only expected to make $9 million per year on his next deal. If he returns to his pre-injury form, the speedy receiver could be a steal for Dallas.
