A team that was seemingly becoming a worthy opponent has been destroyed by a confirmed worthy opponent.
The Dallas Cowboys took on the San Francisco 49ers last night in a one-sided outcome. Long story short, the Cowboys were destroyed by the 49ers in NFL Week 5, by a score of 42-10. The Cowboys scored fewer points than the Texas Rangers did runs yesterday, with them beating the Orioles 11-8 in the MLB playoffs.
Piling Injuries
Not only were the Cowboys embarrassed on national television, but they suffered a string of injuries. Wide receiver KaVontae Turpin suffered a high-ankle sprain that will sideline him for 4-6 weeks. Meanwhile, C.J. Goodwin tore his pectoral, which will result in him missing the remainder of the season. Other injuries sustained by Dallas during the game include Donovan Wilson, Leighton Vander Esch, Jourdan Lewis, and DaRon Bland, among others.
“Didn’t see it coming,” said Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. “Put everything into it and got punched in the mouth. Called it a couple weeks ago humbling against Arizona, but this may be the most humbling I’ve ever been a part of. Felt good about the preparation and felt good about everything, honestly, coming into this game, matchups, and they beat us in every aspect.”
Dominant Niners
On the other side, San Francisco played like a team that’s undefeated through Week 5. Brock Purdy has emerged as the real deal as he threw for four touchdowns. Three of them were to George Kittle, who had three catches for 62 yards, with all three leading to touchdowns. After the game, Kittle donned a T-shirt inscribed with a straightforward message reading: “F*** Dallas.”
“I knew it was our biggest game so far this year, as far as nationally and just media-wise and the hype,” said 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan. “Sometimes you worry your team can get too up for stuff…They were so locked in all week. They didn’t make too big a deal of this game and were ready to go.”
The Cowboys’ loss at the hands of the 49ers brought back memories of the last time these two clubs faced off. That was when the 49ers ended Dallas’ season at Levi’s Stadium in the divisional round back in January. Now, they’ve thrown another dagger into the hearts of the Cowboys, ending their hopes for a win in Week 5.
