The Dallas Cowboys entered the 2025 NFL Draft with multiple needs. Those needs differed depending on who was asked. They certainly filled the biggest voids.
They got Tyler Booker at Guard and Donovan Ezeiruaku at Edge. Both were gaping needs after the departure of Zack Martin and DeMarcus Lawrence. And if you are of the mindset that the Cowboys didn’t need a quarterback, then they likely addressed all their needs and got more depth. But if not…
Let’s face it, Dak Prescott almost certainly isn’t going to win the Superbowl for the Cowboys. His best team(s) have already come and gone. He was oft the winner of the regular season and/or garbage time with them. He’s failed to win all but two of his playoff games for an agonizing record of 2-5 through nine seasons with the Cowboys. His last and undoubtedly most proud moment was sending Tom Brady into retirement with a Wildcard win in Tampa. That game happened just before the annual kick in the face by way of the San Francisco 49ers.
The Emergence of the NFC East
The New York Giants drafted Jaxson Dart in the first round. The Philadelphia Eagles just won the Superbowl with Jalen Hurts, and the Washington Commanders more or less gave away their 2023 season for the legend of Jayden Daniels. It is now a more realistic likelihood that Prescott will be the least talented quarterback in the division. Everybody else is gnawing on first round talent. The Cowboys get… well… Dak. And we already know what Dak is. Good, not great. And shaky at best in the playoffs.
The Cowboys had the premier opportunity to potentially draft a better quarterback, even after filling their biggest needs. They passed on Dillon Gabriel who established himself as a Heisman contender as a member of the Oregon Ducks after departing the Oklahoma Sooners. Everybody passed on Shedeur Sanders who was billed to be a late first/early second rounder. Both quarterbacks were eventually swallowed up by the Cleveland Browns who already had Joe Flacco and Deshaun Watson. We suspect at least one of those new quarterbacks won’t fancy their new enclosures for long. But as of right now they’re all the buzz in Cleveland.
