It’s without a shock that the NFL is a quarterback-driven league.
For as long as these athletes have been playing with the pigskin, the teams with the quality arms have won championships and created dynasties.
On the flip side, teams with average or below-average NFL QBs are either continuously picking at the top of the draft or whiffing on every quarterback they choose.
Below are five of the top NFL QBs who are in the MVP conversation.
Top NFL QBs in the MVP Conversation
1. Sam Darnold- (Minnesota)
Here’s a quick rewind of history: In 2018, the NY Jets selected Sam Darnold 3rd overall, during a time in the league when the Raiders were on life support in Oakland.
The Philadelphia Eagles upset the New England Patriots to claim their first-ever Super Bowl trophy.
While Darnold was just fresh out of USC and the Jets were again looking for a franchise quarterback, this one finally had to work out, right?
Well, after a (7-9) 2020 season where Darnold looked promising, the Jets do what they always do and find a way to ruin him.
Here we are in 2024, and the Jets have Aaron Rodgers, but they fired Robert Saleh after over three years as head coach.
Meanwhile, Darnold goes to the Vikings and is playing the finest football in his profession.
The powerful quarterback is tied for second in touchdown passes (11), fifth in yards per pass attempts (8.1), and sixth in passer rating (103.4).
Who would have thought that, coming into the season, the Vikings would also be (5-0) with the Chiefs, who would bye on the same week?
Is this a sign that these two teams will be the Super Bowl matchup in the Crescent City of New Orleans in February?
2. Patrick Mahomes- (Kansas City Chiefs)
This article will have already been posted by the time the season ends, and Patrick Mahomes will be the favorite to win MVP.
The Super Bowl-winning Head and Shoulders shampoo and State Farm Home and Auto Bundling signal-caller are already the face of the league.
The media and commercial world want to keep reminding us who the new king in town is.
In other words, Mahomes is winning at football and in life.
He already boasts back-back Super Bowl trophies and will look to “Fight for his right to party” at a three-peat this season.
The energetic quarterback has thrown for six touchdowns and six interceptions, but his completion percentage remains at 69.4%, right where it needs to be.
3. Jayden Daniels- (Washington Commanders)
What a positive story coming out of the D.C. area for a change. Jayden Daniels has had a rookie season like no other in this modern-day NFL.
He has a rocket for an arm and can take off with his legs, but more importantly, he wins games.
The Commanders thought they were getting a solid rookie QB who needed time to take off.
Instead, they ended up earning a real dawg at the position, which is something coaches can’t teach.
They also can’t teach that he commands the team calmly and plays the role with grace and intelligence.
Daniels has thrown for six touchdowns and two interceptions. He already has passed for 1,404 yards in OC Kliff Kingsbury’s air raid attack and is quietly becoming a leader.
It’s a small sample size, but Daniels’ rare traits as a first-year NFL QB should at least consider him for the MVP award.
4. Josh Allen- (Buffalo Bills)
Yes, fans, I’m an optimistic Bills fan. Let’s face it: Josh Allen was in an MVP race last year that featured Lamar Jackson and Dak Prescott.
Besides the fact that Mahomes has three Super Bowls, there are traits that Allen and Jackson do well that even Mahomes doesn’t do.
For example, Allen can hurdle over some of the best linebackers in the league, such as Anthony Barr.
Jackson is blazing fast with the ball in his hand and can hit you with that Madden-esque spin move.
While society judges you on how many Super Bowls you’ve won, the MVP judges on talent, merit, and individual abilities.
If you ask logical NFL fans, Allen will always be in this race as long as he remains healthy and has plenty of opportunities to win a Lombardi and a League MVP.
5. Lamar Jackson- (Baltimore Ravens)
After winning the coveted award last year, Jackson is back for another MVP trophy.
The lefty is a man on a mission this year, as he and running back Derrick Henry have been nightmares at the line of scrimmage against opposing defenses.
The talented quarterback has always thrown and run the ball well, but with a bell cow running back and an offense that is even better suited to his skillsets, he has been unstoppable.
Haters will hate, but winners like Jackson always stay hungry and humble and do Gatorade commercials to be successful in life.
These are five of the TOP NFL QBs right now who are in the MVP conversation.
