BYU Cougars look to rebound against West Virginia
Many of the BYU faithful made the trip to Austin to see the Cougars battle Texas in the Sarkisian Bowl. The former BYU quarterback clearly got the better of his former school in the Cougars 35-6 loss. It was a rough day everywhere for BYU with only a few bright spots to be seen.
Darius Lassiter
One of those bright spots was Darius Lassiter and this catch he made while having two defenders all over him.
Even Lassiter had some difficulty as a dropped pass was gobbled up by a Texas defender for an interception. Lassiter would finish his day with five catches for 75 yards. While the team struggled his postgame comments are what you would expect from a seasoned leader like him.
Jakob Robinson
The lockdown corner is a semifinalist for the Thorpe Award which is given to the best defensive back in America at the end of every season. Whether he wins the trophy or not, we BYU fans better enjoy his play in November because he’ll be playing professionally next season.
Misery Loves Company
BYU and Utah both lost by the same score of 35-6. This was the first time both went without a touchdown on the same day since they locked horns in 2003 in Provo. Utah won that game by a baseball score of 3-0. Their shared misery of the day led to this meme.
Traveling Country Roads to battle West Virginia
With 5-3 West Virginia, 5-3 Iowa State, 7-1 Oklahoma, and 6-2 Oklahoma State left I’m not sure where that sixth win to get bowl eligibility in their first year in the Big 12 for BYU comes from. For all the criticisms of Kedon Slovis his experience would be an asset in this tough road game on Saturday night.
But with Slovis out, enter Jake Retzlaff. The top junior college transfer in 2023 is from Corona, California. He led his junior college Riverside City College to records of 12-1 and 11-1 in his two seasons there. Retzlaff is thought to have more mobility than Slovis. He’ll look to use it to try and jumpstart the BYU offense that has been sluggish the last three games.
BYU Vampires
Some good news for BYU is the kickoff in Morgantown is 7:00 PM Eastern, 5:00 PM Mountain meaning it will be a night game for the Cougars. To add some perspective on how that has been such a huge factor for BYU their records in recent memory have been… well, night and day.
In games in daylight since 2021 BYU is 2-10. In their last 21 night games they are 20-1. Here’s to a night game and a change at quarterback to get the BYU offense back on line and get the Cougars bowl-eligible in their first year in the Big 12!
