The Trailblazers are leading the way in Utah early in the 2026 season!

Utah 4-2 (0-0 in the Big 12)

The Utes continued their Week 1 success in Week 2. Their first game against UC San Diego was cancelled, and they lost their game against San Diego, 8-4. The Utes recovered, though, when they beat San Diego State, 7-0. They followed that up with a 9-4 win over Creighton. Despite a couple of games being cancelled, Utah started their 2026 season a respectable 4-2.

UVU 2-5 (0-0 in the WAC)

UVU’s second week of 2026 was rough. The Wolverines went to Reno, Nevada, to take on the Nevada Wolfpack. The Wolfpack swept Utah Valley. They won 7-4 in the first game, 9-5 in the second, and lost the final game 5-3. UVU will try to turn things around and break their five-game losing streak when UC Riverside visits Orem. Maybe the comforts of home are just what the Wolverines need to get back to winning.

BYU 4-3 (0-0 in the Big 12)

The boys from Provo followed up their 2-2 series against Western Kentucky with a game against San Diego State. The Aztecs shut the Cougars out this past Friday, 3-0. BYU would bounce back on Saturday with a 9-7 win over UC San Diego. The Cougars would finish their three games of Week 2 with an 11-3 win over UC Riverside earlier today. BYU will stay in Southern California this week, where they will play Long Beach State twice and Washington State twice as well.

Utah Tech 7-1 (0-0 in the WAC)

The Trailblazers kept their winning streak going to open Week 2, beating Cal State Bakersfield 14-4 on Wednesday. Thursday, they lost their first game of the year, losing 4-3 to Pacific. Tech struck back on Friday with a 2-1 victory. The rubber match on Saturday was won by Utah Tech, 8-5. The roaring Trailblazers will open their season at home this week with four games against Northern Colorado. Utah Tech is off to a great start in 2026, winning seven of their first eight games. After a 24-31 2025, the Trailblazers upperclassmen-heavy team is looking to blaze a historical trail in 2026.

The Utah Four

  1. Utah Tech 7-1 (0-0 in the WAC)
  2. Utah 4-2 (0-0 in the Big 12)
  3. BYU 4-3 (0-0 in the Big 12)
  4. Utah Valley 2-5 (0-0 in the WAC)

Wally Joyner Player of the Week

Utah Tech’s Kyle McDaniel was awarded WAC Player of the Week for the opening weekend, and he’s playing the best baseball of any player in the state of Utah. That’s enough to make him our Wally Joyner Player of the Week, too. McDaniel also set a Utah Tech record by recording his 22nd straight game with a hit, and his 49th straight game getting on base. We’ll probably be seeing a lot of McDaniel as this baseball season goes on.
