Chris Godwin is rounding out the final season of the 3-year, $60M contract he signed with the Buccaneers back in 2022. He’s spent his entire career with Tampa Bay thus far but may look for a change of scenery in the offseason. From a Super Bowl victory to an All-Pro selection, Godwin has solidified his legacy in Tampa. If he decides to move on after this season, he is sure to have plenty of suitors.
Godwin has worked primarily out of the slot this season, though he’s able to get open from any alignment. Godwin is elite after the catch, able to turn quick passes into big gains. This season, he ranks sixth among receivers with at least 50 targets with 6.9 average yards after the catch. His versatility makes him an intriguing option for almost any team with the cap space to afford him. Here are Chris Godwin’s best landing spots in 2025:
Denver Broncos
The Broncos utilize a quick passing game, allowing Godwin to create with the ball in his hands. Godwin would likely see heavy utilization in the screen and RPO game in Denver. Courtland Sutton, Denver’s current top receiver, would complement Godwin’s skillset well with his ability to win over the middle of the field. The Broncos are set to have over $56M in cap space in 205. After their unexpected success this season, they may look to add veteran talent and accelerate their path to contention.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Schematically, Pittsburgh is one of Chris Godwin’s best landing spots. George Pickens has established himself as a top-tier ball winner (similar in some ways to Mike Evans in Tampa Bay). Outside of Calvin Austin III, none of the Steelers’ current receivers excel after the catch. This has limited their offense to the running game and deep shots. Chris Godwin would add dynamism and variety to an offense that needs it desperately. The Steelers are set to have around $53M in cap space.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Chris Godwin is on his way to becoming a Buccaneers legend. He’s spent all of his eight-year career there. He may elect to sign a new deal with Tampa Bay and eventually retire with the team that drafted him. Godwin has built up trust with Baker Mayfield. The combination of Godwin and Mike Evans is a proven success. From a football standpoint, it’s hard to find a reason for Godwin to leave. However, with other big-name Bucs in need of new deals, Tampa Bay just may not be able to pay Godwin what he’s worth.
