Carson Wentz, a free-agent quarterback, agrees to a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, according to a report from ESPN.

Wentz’s Recent Football History

Wentz’s recent football journey saw him joining the Rams as their backup quarterback in Week 10, following the first half of the season without a team. He spent the 2022 season with the Washington Commanders but was released in February 2023 with two years remaining on his contract.

Performance Highlights: Rams vs. 49ers

Wentz, 31, took to the field as the starting quarterback for the Rams’ regular-season finale against the San Francisco 49ers, as Los Angeles rested quarterback Matthew Stafford. He displayed a solid performance, completing 17 of 24 passes for 163 yards, achieving two touchdowns and an interception. He also led both teams in rushing yards with 56 yards and secured a touchdown on 17 carries.

Wentz’s NFL Journey

The Philadelphia Eagles drafted Wentz as the second overall pick in 2016, and he spent six seasons with the team. After losing his starting position to Jalen Hurts following the 2020 season, the Eagles traded him to the Indianapolis Colts.

During his time with the Colts, Wentz managed to throw 27 touchdown passes while keeping interceptions to a minimum. However, his performance in the team’s crucial last two games raised doubts about his future with the Colts, as they needed just one win to secure a playoff spot.

After the 2021 season, Washington acquired Wentz through a trade, offering two third-round picks to the Colts and swapping second-round picks. During his tenure with the Commanders, Wentz appeared in eight games, throwing 11 touchdowns along with nine interceptions. He faced a setback when he broke his finger, leading to Taylor Heinicke replacing him as the team’s starting quarterback.

Over his eight seasons in the NFL, Wentz has completed 62.7% of his passes, amassing 22,292 yards, 153 touchdowns, and 67 interceptions.
