In a month marked by overpowering performances, right-handed pitcher Tekoah Roby has been named the St.Louis Cardinals’ May Minor League Pitcher of the Month. The 23-year-old starter for the Double-A Springfield Cardinals was a dominant force. He showcased a high-caliber arm that has made him one of the organization’s top prospects.

Roby’s exceptional May was defined by a stellar 2-1 record, a 3.86 ERA, and an impressive 1.03 WHIP over five starts. Additionally, across 23.1 innings of work, he racked up an eye-popping 33 strikeouts while issuing a mere four walks. This remarkable command not only solidified his status as a rising star but also played a crucial role in the Springfield Cardinals’ success.

Roby Turns in Dominant Performance

His best outing of the month came on May 16th at home against the Amarillo Sod Poodles. Roby set a new career-high with 11 strikeouts. The righty baffled hitters with a potent mix of his fastball and devastating breaking pitches. Though he didn’t factor into the decision in that particular game, his performance sent a clear message about his potential.

“Tekoah’s performance in May was a direct result of the hard work and dedication he puts in between starts,” said Cardinals Director of Player Development Larry Day. “His focus on refining his mechanics and his unwavering commitment to his development plan have been evident to everyone in the organization. We are incredibly proud of what he accomplished this past month.”

Acquired by the Cardinals at the 2023 trade deadline from the Texas Rangers, Roby has steadily climbed the minor league ladder. After a 2024 season that saw him make starts for both the High-A Peoria Chiefs and Springfield, he has truly hit his stride in 2025. Furthermore, his May performance was a significant step forward in his journey to the major leagues.

Model of Consistency

The right-hander’s month was a model of consistency. Beyond the dazzling strikeout numbers, Roby demonstrated an ability to pitch deep into games. His poise on the mound and his ability to navigate high-pressure situations have been particularly noteworthy to the Cardinals’ player development staff.

For the month, Roby’s impressive strikeout-to-walk ratio of 8.25 underscores the exceptional command he exhibited. This ability to pound the strike zone while still generating a high number of swings and misses is a valuable combination that projects well for his future success.

As the calendar turns to June, all eyes will be on the young pitcher to see how he builds upon his award-winning month. If his performance in May is any indication, the St. Louis Cardinals have a special talent on their hands. His continued development will be a key storyline to follow for the remainder of the season and beyond, as he inches ever closer to his ultimate goal of pitching in the big leagues.
