With one of the most famous fathers in professional golf, Charlie Woods saw a lot at the young age of 15.
Being the son of a famous athlete, he has been very blessed to have his dad’s natural abilities.
In addition, being able to learn and practice with his father, he’s getting that 1:1 private help. Tiger is the 15-year-old’s father, teacher, and coach in golf and life.
Therefore, Charlie can be as good at golf as his famous father, Tiger.
Welcoming Charlie
Charlie Axel Woods was born on February 8, 2009, to famous golfer Tiger Woods and model Elin Nordegren. He also has an older sister named Sam.
Their parents divorced in 2010, which gave them a half-brother from their mother’s marriage to Jordan Cameron in 2019.
Right now, the younger Woods is balancing life between being a regular kid and the son of a championship golfer.
He competes at the amateur level while attending the Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Florida.
Growing up in a famous family, Woods fell in love with soccer. He played it throughout his youth until 2020.
Finding Golf as His True Passion
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Woods could no longer play team soccer. Most team sports at school were shut down, so he needed to find another sport he would enjoy.
All he had to do was look at his bloodlines once, and you knew he would get into golf.
At the 2020 PNC Championship, the 11-year-old became the youngest to compete in tournament history by partnering with his father. They tied for fifth place in 2020 and were runners-up in 2021.
In 2022, they tied for eighth and again for fifth in 2023. While their best finish was second place in 2021, they have yet to win one as a father and son duo.
Nevertheless, Charlie and Tiger can look back at all the memories they gained while playing together at the PNC course, which Tiger played many times in his career.
Charlie Can be as Good at Golf as His Famous Father, Tiger
Right now, Charlie has everything going for him. He showed at the PNC tournament that he is naturally good at golf for his age.
He has many of the same mannerisms as his father; therefore, with hard work and dedication, he can turn pro when he turns 21, just like his father did.
The prognosticators in the media can say what they want. Charlie can be as good as he wants to be.
He has to remember he’s still a kid, so he doesn’t need to take the criticism personally. His dad is there to remind him of what his late dad, Earl Woods, taught him.
Tiger can then motivate Charlie by sharing stories of how he eventually turned pro in 1996 and then show him YouTube clips of winning his first Masters at 21.
Additionally, Charlie needs to know that his dad will be coaching him every step of the way and that his whole family is there for his future and maturation process.
What Other Pro Golfers Think of Charlie
With all the accomplishments the young golfer has made in such a short time, it’s no wonder he has so many fans watching.
But what do the Pro-Golfers think of his talents?
Rory Mcllroy
He quoted, “You know, Charlie is a great kid, first and foremost, he is a great young player, I think we’re all excited to sort of follow his progress and see how far he can go.”
Phil Mickelson
Of course, you can’t have a comment about Charlie without hearing from Tiger’s most prominent rival, Phil Mickelson, or as they call him, “Lefty“?
In 2021, Mickelson had a staunch reaction to a video of Charlie and Tiger. The father and son duo played together while wearing similar-looking attire and reacting similarly to a shot.
He quoted, “I like Charlie’s recoil better!” This stirred the pot because he tried to goat Tiger while praising Charlie. That’s very funny coming from you, Lefty.
Lee Trevino
Even retired golf star Lee Trevino caught the eye of young Woods. He saw both father and son play at the PNC Championship.
Woods was thrilled to hear Trevino say that he could potentially grow into the greatest ball striker in the game.
Conclusion
Additionally, Charlie needs to know that his dad will be coaching him every step of the way and that his whole family is there to support him.
Right now, it looks like Charlie is showing promise, and if he commits to the sport along with Tiger’s help, he can bring top-heavy golf ratings back, just like his father does to this day.
