Game Breakdown
BYU vs Texas Tech has been the most exciting game for BYU all season. This Cougar team stepped up big time to win this game and show the fan base that they aren’t done yet. BYU’s Offense is still struggling to get the run game going but last night it showed more life than it has all year. The passing game was on point most of last night. This Cougar defense played lights out and made big plays left and right. The turnover game was huge and this defense caused four of the five. Special teams were rocking in the punt game and Ryan Rehkow recovered a fumble after Texas Tech dropped a return. They were missing Marcus McKenzie and his gunner skills.
Studs
Tyler Batty DL
Batty was all over the field and couldn’t be contained. He finished the night with nine tackles.
Chase Roberts WR
Roberts was quiet stats-wise but a huge part of this receiving core. He had two receptions for nine yards but had a lot of great blocks.
Darius Lassiter WR
Darius Lassiter made some big catches last night. He finished with four receptions for 47 yards and one touchdown.
Crew Wakley LB
Crew Wakley had the most tackles last night for the Cougar defense and has stepped up in the absence of Ben Bywater. Wakley finished the night with 11 tackles.
Eddie Heckard CB
Heckard was flying all over the field, looking like the next Kai Nacua. He is a ball hawk and will cause a turnover at any cost. He had four tackles, a fumble recovery, and an interception in last night’s win.
Ethan Slade LB
Slade was instrumental in this win and had five tackles and an interception for the Cougar defense.
Duds
Max Tooley LB
Max Tooley has been quiet this season even though he leads the team in tackles. Last night he had six tackles.
Aidan Robbins RB
Last night was his first game back but for a supposed-to-be star player, he hasn’t been that impressive. He had 49 rushing yards on 16 attempts in last night’s win over the Red Raiders.
Harrison Taggart LB
Taggart is looking to lose his job to Esera and be sitting as a backup once again. He hasn’t had many good games after having that one big one against Cincinnati. Yesterday he had one tackle.
Kedon Slovis QB
The only reason the Cougars won yesterday was because of the defense. Slovis isn’t completing many passes and when he does his wide receivers have to go up and get it. He can’t make the easy throws or lead the team back from big-point deficits. He was 15/27 for 127 yards and two touchdowns with the amount of time they were on the field yesterday he should have more passing yards.
