Game Breakdown

BYU is still searching for that sixth win to get them into postseason play. This weekend they lost to Texas and Freshman quarterback Maalik Murphy 35-6. BYU’s Offense isn’t playing at a D1 level and isn’t built to play at that level. The quarterback has been given a chance to prove that he can lead a D1 power five program for the second time in his career and once again he hasn’t proven himself.

The run game has sucked all year and once again they had to turn to that to try and get them back in the game. Finally, the line needs some help on the ends to keep defenders out of the pocket. This defense had a stellar game considering they were playing the number seven team in the country. There is some cleaning up that needs to be done but all around they had a great game. Special teams need some players back and not always be behind the 50-yard line.

Studs

Tyler Batty DE

Tyler Batty the leader of the Cougar defense may have only had three tackles yesterday but he did help the Cougars out in many other ways.

Eddie Heckard CB

Heckard had four tackles, and one pass deflection. This was a good performance for him and those four tackles saved the Cougars from getting farther behind in the game.

Chase Roberts WR

Chase Roberts made some good catches while having to be a part acrobat to make those catches. Roberts had four receptions for 29 yards not his best but one that helped the Cougar offense not look completely like fools.

Max Tooley LB

Tooley found his normal linebacker self and helped the defense to an outstanding performance. He had five tackles mostly in the open field.

Crew Wakley S

Crew Wakley had nine tackles, and one pass deflection. Wakley had the most tackles yesterday and led the Cougars on and off the field.

Blake Mangelson DL

Mangelson had seven tackles, and one pass deflection yesterday. He is becoming a strong lineman for the Cougars.

Duds

Kedon Slovis QB

Another week the Quarterback was a dud and cost BYU the game. Slovis was 25/40 for 197 yards with zero touchdowns and two interceptions. He has a 56% pass completion on the season which isn’t something a senior experienced quarterback should have. This is his third program and still hasn’t shown that under any circumstance he can perform and win a game. He also just throws the ball away after his second check he has four wide receivers on the field. He needs to be quicker at checking down and getting the ball out with accuracy.

Aidan Robbins RB

Aidan Robbins had 17 carriers for 56 yards. For 17 carriers he should have more yards and should be able to read a run block better.

Kamden Garret CB

Garrett had one tackle and gave up too many yards as a starting cornerback. He needs to step it up and play better in order to be able to be the last line before the goal line.
