BYU Chase Roberts

BYU wide receiver Chase Roberts (2) catches a pass under pressure from Kansas cornerback Mello Dotson (3) during the first half of an NCAA college football game Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, in Lawrence, Kan.Charlie Riedel, Associated Press

Game Break Down

BYU suffered its first loss of the season after many missed steps and several mistakes. The Cougars never got going on either side of the ball today and it showed. It didn’t help that they turned the ball over on the game’s first play and then continued to struggle to gain yards. The offense also saw a lack of leadership when they played today. The defense struggled because they were on the field too long and also couldn’t stop the run today. BYU’s special team was the only unit that was put together today.

Injury Report:

  • Crew Wakley played today after suffering a concussion last week
  • Kody Epps was limited after still not playing a full game this season
  • Aidan Robbins didn’t make the trip to Kansas
  • Parker Kingston left the game after being lit up and was seen on the sideline in street clothes
  • Weylin Lapuaho left the game and was then seen on the sideline with a sling on
  • Ben Bywater was also spotted going into the medical tent
  • Kingsley Suamataia also left the game today with an injury but did return
  • Eddie Heckard was another defender to be checked out by the medical staff

Darius Lassiter WR

Darius Lassiter had a big game in front of his family. Lassiter had eight receptions for 84 yards and one touchdown. He stepped up yesterday when the receiver core needed it and helped spark the offense for a time.

AJ Vongpachahn LB

Vongpachahn one of the transfers was seen all over the field and didn’t give up yesterday. He had seven tackles and one tackle for loss. Keep an eye out for him to make his presence known on defense for the rest of the season.

Chase Roberts WR

Chase Roberts led the offense in receiving yards and had another big catch. He had five receptions for 89 yards. Roberts is on his way to a record-breaking season.

Duds

Tyler Batty DE

Tyler Batty struggled yesterday to get off the line and find his footing to get tackles and make plays. Batty had two tackles yesterday which was one of the reasons the defense struggled yesterday.

RBs

The running backs have to find a way to gain yards and contribute to this Cougar team. They haven’t had a big rushing game all season and no one has shown that they shouldn’t be the clear starter.

OL

The offensive line was another dud yesterday but they also had the most injuries and had to trust some third-stringers.
