BYU Basketball is in a new era and ready to start in the Big 12 with Head Coach Kevin Young. The Cougars will come out with a big statement this coming season. With the departure of Mark Pope and his staff, it’s time for a new era for the first time since 2019.

Kevin Young Head Coach

Kevin Young is from Salt Lake City Utah. He played for Middle Georgia from 2000-2002 and then transferred to Clayton State where he played from 2002-2004. At Clayton State, he played in 59 games and had 51 starts. He then went on to his coaching career where he coached at the collegiate and professional levels. Coach Young brings much experience to the Cougars because of his years in the NBA. Young is ready to tackle the challenges of the Big 12. He brings experience and also a lot of great assistants with him to BYU. Soon the Cougars will be able to call themselves a basketball school once again.

Will Voigt Assistant Coach

Will Voigt is from Cabot, Vermont. He didn’t play college ball but spent his time interning with the Clippers as an assistant while attending Pomona College in 1998. Voigt brings just as much if not more experience than Coach Young does. He is the main assistant who will be Kevin Young’s right-hand man and a great piece in the recruiting battle.

Brandon Dunson Assistant Coach

Brandon Dunson is from Bloomington, Illinois. He began his playing career at SIU Edwardsville where he played from 2008-2009. He then transferred to Wabash Valley from 2009-2010 after that he played at Arizona State from 2010-2011. Dunson finished his playing career at Azusa Pacific from 2011-2012. He will bring the recruiting aspect to the Cougars coaching staff.

Chris Burgess Assistant Coach

Chris Burgess is from Provo, Utah, and is back in his hometown. He played for Duke from 1998-1999 where he went to the National Championship. After that, he transferred to Utah where he played for two years from 2001-2002. Burgess is back with the Cougars for his second stint as an assistant. First with Mark Pope and now with Kevin Young. Burgess was a great asset with Coach Pope and he will be again with Coach Young.

John Linehan Assistant Coach

John Linehan is from Chester, Pennsylvania. He played in the Big East where he posted several wins and several awards. Linehan will bring the big-boy mentality to the Cougars as he has worked in the SEC where they too play big-boy ball.

Doug Stewart is from Haddonfield, New Jersey. He played for Brown from 1990-1994 and then for the Generals from 1994-1999.
