BYU Football is underway at fall camp for the 2023 season. There are so many position battles, new coaches, and other great topics to follow before the season kicks off in 25 days.
With this new season underway the Cougars are seeing a different kind of energy in the building. They are also seeing the excitement of being back and also playing its first season in the Big 12. They did two days in shells and helmets before they ended the week and will make the jump to pads this week.
Offense
The offense has been shaping up nicely as they look to bring in a new starting quarterback, wide receiver, and running back. The wide receivers will be the best group to help keep this offense going down the field. The Cougar offensive line is looking great and will have a great line up no matter who is on the field. Mason Fakahua has been making some nice grabs including the one on the first day of camp. Masen Wake is making his case to be more than just a full time blocking tight end and be useful down the field. Aidan Robbins will be dangerous down field and hard to stop once he gets past the line.
Defense
The defensive side of the ball is seeing growth and dept come into play as this season begins. The BYU safeties have been making plays and are making some big hits under Jay Hill. Isaiah Glasker has been making plays including the Interception during the first practice. Eddie Heckard will be dangerous in the back field and quarterbacks shouldn’t lose sight of his number. Crew Wakley has also been making some big plays including him picking off Cade Fennegan the other day.
Special Teams
The Special Teams are coming back stronger this year as they look for a new kicker and have Ryan Rehkow punting the ball inside the five. The Kicking battle has been shaping up nicely and coach Poppinga isn’t ready to name a starter yet.
