With a list of injuries to the San Francisco 49ers, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is now likely out for the season. Aiyuk left the game against the Kansas City Chiefs early with a knee injury. Following the game, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan stated that the fear is it is an ACL tear.

Brandon Aiyuk’s Injury

In the week seven matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs it seemed as though Brandon Aiyuk would have to step up as the top receiver. Wide receiver Jauan Jennings was ruled out with a hip injury sustained in week six against the Seattle Seahawks. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel did show up to the game but could not play due to an illness. This was set to be a big Aiyuk game but that unfortunately did not happen.

In the second quarter with just 48 seconds left in the game, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy made a pass down the middle to Aiyuk. It went for 15 yards, and the pass was complete but Aiyuk was down with an injury. That was the last time that Aiyuk was in the game. He was then carted into the locker room.

Before this play, Aiyuk was targeted a couple of times. He did miss one big reception that he should have caught. This is an unfortunate injury considering the team is still without star running back Christian McCaffrey. Before leaving the game, Aiyuk had two receptions for 23 yards, according to ESPN.

49ers Without Brandon Aiyuk

Aiyuk has not had the season that he should have this year. At the end of August, the 49ers signed Aiyuk to a four-year extension worth $120 million. Being paid like this, a big year is expected. Aiyuk’s season is ending with just 25 receptions for 374 yards according to ESPN.

The most unfortunate part about this is that Aiyuk was starting to pick up the pace this season. It is still not the year he should be having with his contract but he was slowly improving. The 49ers have one more game to go before their bye week, which hopefully will allow other players to return from an injury.

Without Aiyuk the 49ers still have Jennings and Samuel. Jennings aside from missing the game against the Chiefs with a hip injury has been having a stellar season. The 49ers also just had wide receiver Ricky Pearsall make his first start. Pearsall was sadly shot in the chest ahead of the season, yet he was able to make his debut against the Chiefs. Of course, the team also has George Kittle and Kyle Juszczyk as receivers. The 49ers still have their offensive weapons but they need to all be healthy at the same time.

The status of McCaffrey is still up in the air, but he is targeting to return on Nov. 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This is the first game the 49ers will play following the bye week. While that is still yet to be determined this is something that 49ers fans can hope for.

San Francisco 49ers Getting to the Bye

Following the 28-18 loss, the San Francisco 49ers now sit at a 3-4 record. Their next game will be at home against the 3-3 Dallas Cowboys. This is the final game that the 49ers have before an important bye week. If the 49ers can get to the bye with a 4-4 record, the season is still there. The team does have to improve on all aspects. Hopefully, after the bye week, the 49ers can get their playmakers back on the field healthy, and overall play better as a team.
