The Buffalo Bills have agreed to a new three-year contract with tight end Dawson Knox, allowing the team to keep the veteran on the roster while navigating a challenging salary-cap situation.

The agreement keeps Knox under contract through the 2028 season. He had previously been scheduled to carry a $17.1 million cap hit in 2026 with $12 million due in cash. Releasing him would have created roughly $9.7 million in cap savings, but Buffalo instead opted to restructure his deal to maintain continuity on offense.

Strong Relationship With Coaching Staff

Knox expressed a strong desire to remain in Buffalo, where he has spent his entire NFL career. The 29-year-old has developed a close working relationship with tight ends coach Rob Boras, whom the team promoted this offseason to also serve as the run game coordinator.

He will also continue working under new head coach Joe Brady, as the Bills aim to maintain stability on offense despite offseason financial constraints.

Reliable Target for Josh Allen

Selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Knox has grown into a dependable part of the Bills’ offensive system and a trusted target for quarterback Josh Allen.

Last season, Knox appeared in all 17 games, starting 12 of them. He finished third on the team in receiving yards with 417 and tied for second with four touchdown receptions.

Across seven seasons in Buffalo, Knox has recorded 229 receptions for 2,694 yards and 27 touchdowns while also contributing heavily in the run game.

Tight End Room Remains Intact

With Knox secured on a new deal, Buffalo retains stability at tight end heading into the 2026 season. He will continue sharing the position group with former first-round pick Dalton Kincaid and 2025 fifth-round selection Jackson Hawes.

Knox becomes the latest offensive player the Bills have retained this offseason, joining center Connor McGovern, who recently agreed to a four-year extension with the team.
