With the NBA draft taking place on Thursday, it is time to look at the Big Ten basketball players that were picked. Some players were selected relatively early, while some schools were not represented at this year’s draft. The Big Ten was competitive this season, with multiple teams making the March Madness tournament. Here is a look at who is shown in the 2023 NBA draft within the conference.
Big Ten Basketball Players Drafted
Jett Howard – Michigan
In round one with pick 11, the first player in the conference to be drafted is Jett Howard. Howard played for Michigan and was drafted by the Orlando Magic. Howard played in 28 games last season as a guard. He averaged 14.2 points with a field goal percentage of 41.4% and a free throw percentage of 80%, according to Sports Reference.
Kobe Bufkin – Michigan
The second player in the Big Ten conference is also a Michigan Wolverine. Kobe Bufkin’s selection comes from the Atlanta Hawks in round one with pick 15. In the 2022-2023 season, Bufkin was a part of 33 games. He had an average of 14 points with a field goal percentage of 48.2% and a free throw percentage of 84.9 according to Sports Reference.
Jalen Hood-Schifino – Indiana
Indiana is the next school in the Big Ten to have representation. In round one with pick 17, the LA Lakers select Jalen Hood-Schifino. The 6-6 guard was able to play 32 games in the 2022-2023 season. He had an average of 13.5 points with a field goal percentage of 41.7% and a free throw percentage of 77.6%, according to Sports Reference.
Kris Murray – Iowa
From the Iowa Hawkeyes, Kris Murray will now play with the Portland Trail Blazers. The selection came in round one with pick 23. Murray made a big step up in 2022-2023, leading to him being a draft pick. Last season he had an average of 14 points, a 48.2 field goal percentage, and an 84.9 free throw percentage according to Sports Reference.
Brice Sensabaugh – Ohio State
The final Big Ten draft pick in the first round is Brice Sensabaugh from Ohio State. Sensabaugh’s selection comes from pick 28 by the Utah Jazz. Sensabaugh was able to play in 33 games last season. In the 2022-2023 season, he had an average of 16.3 points with a field goal percentage of 48% and a free throw percentage of 83% according to Sports Reference.
Jalen Pickett – Penn State
In round two, there were not many players in the conference. One who was is Jalen Pickett from Penn State. His selection comes in round two with pick 32. Pickett was initially drafted by the Indiana Pacers and then traded to the Denver Nuggets. Pickett had a strong season for the Nittany Lions, playing in 37 games. In those games, he had an average of 17.7 points, according to Sports Reference. He also had a field goal percentage of 50.8% and a free throw percentage of 76.3%.
Seth Lundy – Penn State
One of the final two players in the 2023 NBA draft from the Big Ten is Aeth Lundy. Lundy is also from Penn State. He is the 49th overall pick in round two. His selection is from the Atlanta Hawks. In 2022-2023, the forward had an average of 14.2 points per game, according to Sports Reference. Lundy also had an average field goal percentage of 45% and a free throw percentage of 80.7%.
Trayce Jackson-Davis – Indiana
The final of the Big Ten players to be a selection is Trayce Jackson-Davis. In the second round with pick 57, the Wizards select Jackson-Davis. The next step in discussing this pick is that he is part of a trade and will play for the Golden State Warriors. Jackson-Davis had a decent 2022-2023 season, playing in 32 games. In those games, he had an average of 20.9 points per game. He also had a field goal percentage of 58.1% and a free throw percentage of 69.5% according to Sports Reference.
The Big Ten conference was well represented in this year’s NBA draft. There are now seven players from the conference, which will help with recruiting in the Big Ten as well.
