Football season is right around the corner and the Big 12 preseason football poll is out. The newcomers are making their case for some top spots in this 2023 season.
Texas
Texas is coming off a 8-5 record and going 6-3 in the Big 12. Many have them winning eight or nine games this fall and heading to a New Year Six bowl game. With the returning players they have and the incoming ones who can be leaders on and off the field they should be the best team in the Big 12.
Kansas State
The Wildcats are coming off a 10-4 season and 7-2 in the Big 12. Kansas State is looking to make another run at the table but come up short with only eight wins and some close loses to Big 12 opponents who make the late game push. They may be second or third it depends on if they can beat Texas, Texas Tech, and Baylor
Oklahoma
Oklahoma is coming off a 6-7 record and 3-6 in the Big 12. The Sooners can’t get any lower than this so it should mean they are on an upward trend and make a push for third, fourth, or fifth place in the Big 12. Many have them winning eight or nine games with losses coming to Texas, Oklahoma State, and TCU
Texas Tech
Texas Tech had a 8-5 season while going 5-4 in conference play. The Red Raiders hold a good chance at coming going 8-4 once again and winning about five games in conference again. If they can stay healthy then maybe win one or two more games.
TCU
The Horned Frogs are looking for another chance at the National Championship game after going 13-2 and undefeated in the Big 12 with nine wins. TCU has much to prove this season and also a revenge season so keep an eye out to maybe be higher than five in the Big 12.
Baylor
Baylor is coming off a 6-7 season with a 4-5 Big 12 record. The Bears will be sixth in the Big 12 this year with five wins in the conference and six maybe seven wins overall. Baylor won’t have a very impressive season and many don’t expect them to play too late in December.
Oklahoma State
The Cowboys are looking to have another great season. After last year going 7-6 and 4-5 in conference they are looking to turn some heads with some big wins but only get six total this coming fall.
UCF
UCF the first newcomer to make the list and be listed at number eight in their first Big 12 poll. The Knights are coming of a good season at 9-5 and second in the AAC. With the move to the new conference they may only have seven wins and five in the Big 12.
Kansas
The Jayhawks went 6-7 and 3-6 in 2022. They can bounce back and they are looking to do just that with maybe having six or seven wins this fall with maybe a win against a higher ranked Big 12 team.
Iowa State
Iowa State is coming off a hard season going 4-8 and 1-8 in the Big 12. Many say that they can have six wins if they can stay healthy and play this season one game at a time.
BYU
The Cougars are the next newcomers in the Big 12 to make the poll at number 11. BYU is coming off an 8-5 season with some big wins including some over now Big 12 opponents. The Cougars are predicted to have five maybe six wins with maybe a chance at a bowl game during its first season in the conference.
Houston
Houston is the third newcomer to make the list at 12. This comes after them going 8-5 with finishing fifth in the AAC. Houston could win four maybe five games this year and one or two in the Big 12 if they can find their footing early in the season.
Cincinnati
The Bearcats are the last newcomer coming in at number 13. They went 9-4 and finished third in the AAC this past season. Many say they could have a solid four or five wins maybe six. Maybe only one of those will come within this conference.
West Virginia
West Virginia is predicted to finish last after they second to last in the Big 12 last year. The Mountaineers finished 5-7 and 3-6 in 2022. They are expected to get five wins and maybe two in conference.
