Some Seattle Seahawks fans (this author) have been struggling with big changes in the off-season. Pete Carroll is forced to retire after 14 seasons. It’s not the same without his gum chewing and challenge flag throwing on the sidelines. The powers that be also traded away the final member of the Legion of Boom to the Washington Commanders. That feels particularly unfair considering how unethically they traded him away the first time. However, there has been some salve for the wounds of the nostalgic Seattle Seahawks fan, and we’ll discuss them below.

All We Do Is Win

Literally all we have done so far in the 2024-2025 season is win. We are 3-0. This week is the first week that we have a comfortable lead (24-3) against the Miami Dolphins. Our other wins were slightly more tentative. We defeated the Broncos 26-20 and the Patriots 23-20.

To be clear, this happened in the 2020-2021 season, so Pete Carroll could have led us to this place too. However, even when things look a little dicey, it still feels like our team has it. A Seattle Seahawks fan can rest assured that their team will figure it out, even when it doesn’t feel like it. There’s something calming about that. We probably won’t remain undefeated, but it does seem like we’ll be good this season with the team we have.

Still Have Seattle Seahawks Fan Favorites

We lost many players. This author’s personal favorite Nick Bellore, for example. The loss of Russell Wilson still stings for some. Quandre Diggs and his adorable father-daughter moments too. There is a sense of grieving for what was.

However, we still do have some old Seattle Seahawks fan favorites. Most notably, the dream duo of Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf. Despite Metcalf arriving four years after Lockett, in 2019, they still feel like they’ve been together forever. As one of the most powerful wide receiver teams, the two speak to a time of yesteryear. Even they won’t last much longer, possibly not even another season. We can enjoy them as long as we have them.

A Bright Future

The Seattle Seahawks new head coach and his new hires have adapted rather seamlessly to the team. Often a new head coach will bring in their own QB, and the new HC didn’t do that. He is choosing to work with a seasoned quarterback and some of the Hawks most prominent key pieces. That feels humble and admirable to some extent.

Also, the defense is on fire. Even when the offensive side of the ball feels a little wonky, the defense is always there. Having a head coach with a defensive background is relieving. Seattle is known for its defense in past years, and there’s something meaningful about that side of the ball improving this season.

Conclusion

Seattle Seahawks fans have had to get used to a lot of ‘out with the old, in with the new’ lately. Other teams don’t have the luxury of knowing what it felt like to keep many of the same coaches and players for over a decade. There is a bond. However, change is inevitable. Thankfully, even though we have mostly new players and coaches, we still have a few old favorites. And we can’t stop winning, which eases the pain.
