Austin Riggs BYU Long Snapper has announced he is entering the transfer portal. This comes after a season in which he helped out with many successful punts, recovered a fumble, and made some tackles. Riggs will transfer with one year of eligibility remaining in his collegiate career.
Austin Riggs is a 6-4 230 lbs junior from Eagle, Idaho. He has played in 27 games since 2020. This season he played in all 12 games, had a fumble recovery in the win over Cincinnati, and got a tackle against Sam Houston State. His fumble recovery came off a long punt from Ryan Rehkow and a huge hit from Marcus Mckenzie. In 2022 he was named player of the week against Baylor by the coaches at BYU. This season he had a new coach come in after the departure of Ed Lamb. Kelly Poppinga came to coach the special teams and he has done an outstanding job so far. Over his career, Riggs played in 40 games with four tackles, and one fumble recovery.
Cougar Nation is sad to see him go and will miss him on gameday. His little brother Dalton Riggs is a freshman long snapper and will step into the starting role next season. Riggs is grateful that he got to spend time playing alongside his brother at the college level.
