The transfer portal news has slowed down a bit, but there are still a ton of players looking for a place to play football in 2024. Former Georgia cornerback, A.J. Harris has now committed to play for the Penn State Nittany Lions in 2024. This is a solid pickup for both the player and the team. Here is a look at Harris, and where his place is on the future Nittany Lions.
A.J. Harris with Georgia
In 2023, Harris played just seven games for the Georgia Bulldogs. Statistically, there is not much there. He had eight total tackles, three solo, according to Sports Reference. That is something that is expected from a freshman though. When Harris first committed to Georgia, Kerby Smart had high praise for the young athlete. Harris loves the game of football, and it translates onto the field.
Harris was a five-star recruit entering his collegiate career, according to 247Sports. As a transfer, he is still a strong prospect and set to be a big addition to Penn State. Harris will most likely get more playing time at Penn State than he would have at Georgia.
Harris’ Potential with Penn State
Penn State’s defense will be different next season. There is no doubt about that. That is not to say it will be bad, just different. Former defensive coordinator, Manny Diaz is now the head coach for Duke Football. Players such as Kalen King are moving on to the NFL. Harris will be a young player on this new Penn State defense.
Harris is not the only cornerback from Georgia set to be on the team in 2024. Jalen Kimber also spent time at Georgia, though the last two seasons he played for the Florida Gators. Penn State has been utilizing the transfer portal for positions of need, which should help them stay competitive in the new Big Ten next season.
While there may not be a lot to say about Harris in his collegiate career, he is known to be a dedicated, hard working player. It will be fun to see what he can do on this Nittany Lions defense.
