The big games gave us the biggest stars of Week 2, especially from three quarterbacks. Baylor vs. SMU, Oklahoma vs. michigan, and Missouri vs. Kansas delivered the offensive fireworks and Heisman-worthy performances in this very young college football season!
Sawyer Robertson, Baylor, Quarterback, Senior
Robertson posted his second straight game with more than 400 passing yards. In the upset, double overtime win over rival SMU, Robertson was 34 of 50 for 440 yards and four touchdowns passing. Baylor beat their Dallas rivals 48-45.
John Mateer, Oklahoma, Quarterback, Junior
The question for John Mateer and Oklahoma fans is will he be able to replicate the success he had at Washington State in the SEC? His performance in their Week 2 win over michigan was a good indicator in the affirmative. Mateer completed 21 of his 34 passes for 270 yards and a touchdown. He also had 19 carries for 74 yards and two touchdowns rushing in the 24-13 victory.
Beau Pribula, Missouri, Quarterback, Senior
Pribula had a fantastic game against Kansas in the renewal of a rivalry that should be played every single season. The transfer from Penn State was 30 of 39 for 334 yards and three touchdowns passing the ball. Missouri got a big early-season, out-of-conference win in a shootout over Kansas, 42-31 in the Border War.
Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State, Wide Receiver, Sophomore
Smith had been quiet against Texas by design of head coach Ryan Day. Against Grambling this week, Ryan Day let the Buckeye offense put their foot on the gas in the 70-0 win. Jeremiah Smith had five catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns, including a program record long 87-yarder for Ohio State.
Chip Trayanum, Toledo, Running back, Senior
Trayanum likely won’t win the Heisman at Toledo, but he had a fantastic game when the Rockets played Western Kentucky. The former Ohio State Buckeye had 14 carries for 163 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 13 yards and another touchdown in the passing game as Toledo beat WKU 45-21.
