The Philadelphia Eagles are placing three-time Pro Bowl left guard Landon Dickerson on injured reserve because of a knee injury, according to multiple reports.
The move will sideline Dickerson for at least four games after he played through the injury in Philadelphia’s 24-22 season-opening win over the Washington Commanders.
Dickerson appeared to confirm the decision Monday during an appearance on Philadelphia radio station WIP, saying the move would allow him to recover and return later in the season.
Landon Dickerson Criticizes His Performance
Dickerson acknowledged that he was not healthy enough to play against Washington and delivered a blunt assessment of his performance.
“I was a complete liability.” Dickerson said. “It was my fault. I should not be out there until I feel healthy.”
Dickerson said he was rolled up on during practice several weeks ago and initially thought the injury would improve with time. After it failed to heal, the Eagles had imaging done Monday to determine the extent of the problem.”
He described the injury as a bone bruise in his right knee and said continuing to play could prevent it from healing properly.
“Really the best plan going forward is to put me on IR so I can have a good stretch at the back end of the season,” Dickerson said. “I don’t think anybody wants to see that again. That was ugly.”
Knee Injury Separate From 2025 Issue
Dickerson said his current injury is unrelated to the knee problem that affected him last season.
He underwent surgery in August 2025 to repair a torn meniscus and returned in time to play 15 regular-season games. Dickerson later acknowledged that he likely returned before fully recovering and struggled throughout the season.
The 27-year-old underwent stem cell therapy in Colombia during the offseason in an effort to address lingering issues in both knees and ankles.
Dickerson again appeared limited during training camp and against Washington, where he struggled to move at his usual level and allowed multiple pressures.
Eagles coach Nick Sirianni still praised Dickerson’s toughness and ability to make an impact in the running game.
“He’s tough as heck,” Sirianni said. “We’ve won a ton of games with Landon, and there’s a lot of good things that he can do.”
Drew Kendall Expected to Replace Dickerson
Philadelphia is expected to turn to Drew Kendall at left guard while Dickerson recovers.
Kendall, a 2025 fifth-round pick out of Boston College, impressed the Eagles during the offseason and could now receive his first extended opportunity in the starting lineup.
Sirianni highlighted Dickerson’s power and his ability to move defenders at the line of scrimmage, but Philadelphia will need Kendall to help maintain the offensive line’s performance during his absence.
Dickerson’s decision to land on injured reserve will give him a longer recovery window rather than forcing him to attempt to play through the injury for another extended stretch.”
The Eagles will be without their Pro Bowl guard for at least the next four games before he becomes eligible to return.
