The New York Giants have agreed to two-year contract extensions with backup quarterback Jameis Winston and starting left guard Jon Runyan, keeping both veterans under contract through the 2028 season.
Winston’s extension is worth $13 million, while Runyan’s deal is valued at $22 million and includes $21.5 million guaranteed, according to reports.
The moves give the Giants additional stability at two important positions heading into the 2026 season while allowing the organization to retain two experienced players who have established themselves as key members of the team.
Winston Set to Remain Jaxson Dart’s Backup
Winston, 32, will continue to serve as the backup to second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart.
The Giants initially signed Winston to a two-year, $8 million contract last offseason, before selecting Dart in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Once Dart became the starter, Winston moved into the No. 2 role and provided veteran leadership to the quarterback room.
Winston appeared in three games last season and made two starts, completing 56.1% of his passes for 567 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
The 2026 season will be Winston’s 12th in the NFL. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected him No. 1 overall in the 2015 draft, and he has since played for the New Orleans Saints, Cleveland Browns and Giants.
Winston has started 89 of his 108 career games and has thrown for 24,792 yards, 156 touchdowns and 113 interceptions. He also brings extensive experience to a Giants quarterback room that includes Dart and practice-squad quarterback Jake Haener.
Runyan Secures Long-Term Stability on Offensive Line
Runyan, 29, is entering the final season of the three-year, $30 million contract he signed with the Giants in 2024. His new extension keeps him in New York through 2028.
The veteran guard has started all 29 games he has played for the Giants over the past two seasons after spending the first four years of his career with the Green Bay Packers.
His extension also provides continuity for an offensive line that returns most of its starters. Left tackle Andrew Thomas, center John Michael Schmitz and right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor are among the other returning starters, with rookie Francis “Sisi” Mauigoa entering the group at right guard.
Runyan has appeared in 96 regular-season games during his career, including 79 starts, and has five postseason appearances.
Giants Retain Veteran Leadership
Both extensions reinforce the Giants’ commitment to experienced players as they prepare for the upcoming season under head coach John Harbaugh.
Winston has taken on a leadership role within the organization and has developed a strong relationship with Dart. Running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. previously praised Winston for his willingness to help teammates across the roster and his influence inside the locker room.
Winston has also made clear that he values the opportunity to remain with the Giants despite having potentially sought a starting job elsewhere.
“When a team gives me the opportunity and believes in me, they give me a job, I want to play for that team and do my best for that team,” Winston said.
With the two extensions, New York has secured Winston and Runyan through the 2028 season while maintaining continuity at quarterback and along the offensive line.
