The Seattle Seahawks suffered a concerning injury during Friday’s joint practice with the Tennessee Titans, with wide receiver Jake Bobo sustaining what coach Mike Macdonald described as a serious knee injury.
Bobo was injured while being taken to the ground near the sideline. Medical personnel examined his right knee before he was carted off the field. The Seahawks later gathered and prayed for the 28-year-old receiver after practice.
“Our heart goes out to Jake Bobo,” Macdonald said. “It seems like it’s going to be a serious knee [injury]. We’re going to get it imaged, but early returns are [that] it looks like it’s a long-term injury.”
Bobo Emerged as Key Seahawks Contributor
Bobo entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2023 and quickly became a fan favorite after making Seattle’s roster out of training camp.
Although he has never been a major part of the Seahawks’ passing attack, Bobo established himself as a dependable special teams contributor and rotational receiver.
He has recorded 34 receptions for 323 yards and three touchdowns across 45 regular-season games since entering the league. Last season, he appeared in 11 games and caught two passes for 20 yards.
Bobo also made two catches for 33 yards and a touchdown during Seattle’s playoff run to Super Bowl LX, which the Seahawks won 29-13 over the New England Patriots.
Seahawks Invested in Bobo This Offseason
Bobo’s value to Seattle extends beyond his offensive statistics.
His work on special teams, blocking ability, physical style and energy made him an important depth piece for the Seahawks. The team showed how much it valued him this offseason by matching a two-year, $5.5 million offer sheet he signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a restricted free agent.
“He’s a beast, man,” Macdonald said. “He’s just a great football player, a great Seahawk. Hopefully we reflected that in our investment in him. We love him. We’ll be there beside him as he recovers and pray it’s a speedy recovery.”
Quarterback Sam Darnold also expressed his disappointment over the injury.
“It hurts, man,” Darnold said. “He brings the juice every single day, and he just does his job. So it sucks to lose Bobo but I know he’s going to attack it and be better whenever he comes back.”
Seahawks Already Dealing With Receiver Injuries
Bobo’s injury could create additional uncertainty for a Seattle receiving corps already dealing with health concerns.
Tory Horton, who is returning from surgery after a leg injury ended his rookie season early in 2025, was expected to compete for the No. 4 receiver role behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Cooper Kupp and Rashid Shaheed.
However, Horton has also missed the past week with an undisclosed injury and did not practice Friday.
“He’s still working through his stuff,” Macdonald said. “He’s going to be out for a period of time.”
The Seahawks also saw right tackle Abe Lucas and receiver Montorie Foster Jr. leave Friday’s practice, although Macdonald said their issues appeared to be heat-related.
Seattle Awaits Further Testing
The Seahawks will now await imaging and additional medical evaluations to determine the full extent of Bobo’s injury and establish a recovery timeline.
A long-term absence would leave Seattle without a player who had carved out an important role despite limited opportunities in the passing game.
The Seahawks are hoping the early concern surrounding Bobo’s knee does not ultimately lead to a season-ending diagnosis, but Macdonald’s initial assessment suggests Seattle could be without one of its most reliable depth and special teams players for an extended period.
