The 2026 regular season wraps up in Utah!
Utah 26-24 (12-18 in the Big 12)
The U finished their regular season in Salt Lake City this week. Utah began the week by hosting Utah Tech. The Utes would be victorious in the battle between Salt Lake City and St. George, defeating the Trailblazers, 16-9. Utah would welcome the Baylor Bears to town for their final Big 12 series of the season.
Utah edged Baylor in the opening game of the series on Thursday. The U picked up an 8-7 victory over the Bears. Baylor struck back, though, on Friday and Saturday, winning both games and taking the series from the Utes. Utah dropped their final two games of the regular season, 10-3 and 11-10, respectively. Utah will battle Kansas State in the Big 12 Tournament beginning on Tuesday. They’ll play that game in Surprise, Arizona.
Utah Valley 18-36 (4-14 in the WAC)
UVU closed out their season this week in Utah County. They made the short trip to Provo for a game against BYU on Tuesday, and the Cougars crushed them 13-3. BYU needed only seven innings to defeat the Wolverines. UVU then welcomed UT Arlington to Orem for the Wolverines’ final WAC series. Surprisingly, Utah Valley opened their series with a 13-5 win on Thursday. It was only their third conference win of the season! Friday saw them win again, 10-9! This time with a walk-off bunt that brought home the winning run!
This was their first back-to-back conference victories of the year and their first conference series victory. They almost pulled off the sweep on Saturday, but their ninth-inning rally fell short, and they lost, 11-10. Even if they had pulled off the upset, UVU wasn’t playing anymore games this season. UVU’s 2026 season has come to an end as their last-place finish leaves them on the outside looking in of the final WAC Baseball Tournament.
BYU 27-27 (14-16 in the Big 12)
BYU wrapped up their regular season with a four-game homestand. Their first game was on Tuesday against their Utah County rival from Orem, the Utah Valley Wolverines. UVU has had a rough season, so BYU did what they should against a team with 34 losses. The Cougars clawed the Wolverines and won 13-3 in seven innings.
The Cougars then finished their regular season with a three-game series in Provo against the Big 12’s best, the Kansas Jayhawks. To BYU’s credit, they stuck with Kansas. The Jayhawks won on Thursday, 9-6, and escaped with a win on Friday, 7-6. The two wins gave Kansas the Big 12 regular-season championship. BYU came into Saturday’s game hungry for a win. The Cougars were trying to avoid the sweep, win their final home game, and enter the Big 12 Tournament with some momentum. The game went to 11 innings before Ryder Robinson walked it off for a 5-4 BYU win!
BYU will play Texas Tech in the Big 12 Tournament on Tuesday. Less than two weeks ago the Red Raiders took two of three games from BYU in Lubbock. The good news for BYU is that they outscored Texas Tech in that series 24-20. The Big 12 Tournament will be played this week in Surprise, Arizona.
Utah Tech 33-22 (10-8 in the WAC)
Tech went north to play their last true road game of the season in Salt Lake City. They fought their northern Utah counterparts hard, but ultimately fell, 16-9. The Trailblazers then returned to St. George to finish off their regular season and WAC play against Abilene Christian. Tech opened the series with a shootout! They demolished ACU, 22-12 in only eight innings!
Friday’s game was a little quieter on the scoreboard, as Utah Tech would win, but this time only 7-4. Saturday, in the home finale of 2026 in Bruce Hurst Field, the Trailblazers would go out with a bang! The bats were humming for Utah Tech, and they would get another run-rule victory in eight innings. This time by the score of 19-8! Tech will play UT Arlington in their first game in the WAC Tournament on Wednesday, in Mesa, Arizona.
The Utah Four
- BYU 27-27 (14-16 in the Big 12)
- Utah 26-24 (12-18 in the Big 12)
- Utah Tech 33-22 (10-8 in the WAC)
- Utah Valley 18-36 (4-14 in the WAC)
Wally Joyner Player of the Week
Utah Tech scored an insane 57 runs in their four games this week. So, it’s only fitting that the Trailblazers gave us the player of the week. That went to first baseman Miller Durham. The junior from San Diego had a monster week for Tech. Durham had 11 hits that batted in 10 runs, and three of those hits were home runs!
