The Buffalo Bills added another experienced piece to their defensive front on Monday, agreeing to a one-year deal with former Kansas City Chiefs pass rusher Mike Danna.

Danna arrives in Buffalo after spending the first six seasons of his NFL career in Kansas City, where he helped the franchise capture two Super Bowl titles while carving out a consistent role along the defensive line. The 28-year-old totaled 21.5 sacks, 51 quarterback hits and six forced fumbles across 87 regular-season appearances with the Chiefs.

The move continues Buffalo’s aggressive offseason overhaul of its edge-rushing group as the defense transitions into a new scheme under coordinator Jim Leonhard.

Danna adds proven depth to Buffalo’s front seven

Originally selected in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Danna developed into one of Kansas City’s more reliable rotational defenders during the team’s championship run. He played in 15 games last season and remained a steady contributor in both pass-rushing and run-support situations.

Danna also became familiar with Buffalo throughout his time in Kansas City, facing the Bills multiple times in both the regular season and playoffs. His lone sack against Buffalo came during the AFC Championship Game following the 2024 season, when he stripped Josh Allen before the quarterback recovered the fumble.

Former Chiefs coach Andy Reid once praised Danna’s relentless motor, describing him as a player who “goes 100 miles per hour for every play.”

Bills continue rebuilding edge room

Buffalo’s defensive end room looks significantly different entering the 2026 season. The team signed veteran edge rusher Bradley Chubb earlier this offseason and used its top draft selection on former Clemson Tigers football standout T.J. Parker.

Danna now joins a rotation that also includes projected starter Greg Rousseau and Michael Hoecht, who continues recovering from a torn Achilles suffered last season.

Head coach Joe Brady recently emphasized the importance of defensive line depth, noting that successful defenses rely on maintaining pressure even when rotational players enter the game.

The signing also provides Buffalo with additional flexibility as the organization adjusts to its expected 3-4 defensive structure heading into the upcoming season.

To create roster space for Danna, the Bills released cornerback M.J. Devonshire.
