BYU has the best Week 5 in the state of Utah with the Utes close behind!
Utah 11-6 (2-1 in the Big 12)
The Utes hosted Arizona on Friday night in Salt Lake City. The opening game went into extra innings, but the Utes ultimately fell, 8-6. Saturday was another extra-innings grind for the U, but this time they prevailed, 7-6, to even the series against Arizona. Arizona and Utah had another one-run game on Sunday. This one was settled in the final inning as well; the Utes prevailed in walk-off fashion, 8-7. The Utes will wrap up their homestand with a game against Washington State tomorrow. They’ll then hit the road to my neck of the woods as they’ll play Cincinnati in a weekend series.
Utah Valley 10-8 (0-0 in the WAC)
UVU got away with a win on Wednesday against Colorado Mesa. The Wolverines won over their Division II foe, with a too-close-for-comfort score of 6-4. Utah Valley fell hard earlier tonight against Cincinnati. The Bearcats beat the Wolverines 11-1. UVU will again play Cincinnati at home tomorrow. They’ll then head to the Bay Area of the West Coast for a four-game weekend battle against Stanford.
BYU 9-9 (2-1 in the Big 12)
The boys in blue from Provo cooled off red-hot Utah Tech real quick on Tuesday. The 13-3 Trailblazers were blasted, 19-2, by BYU. The Cougars got their second win of the week on Thursday. This time, it was against a Cincinnati Bearcats team that has been on fire this season. BYU took game one from heavy-hitting UC, 5-2.
UC struck back in Provo on Friday, where they evened the series, 9-7. In the deciding game on Saturday, it was again a tight contest. BYU would prevail, cooling off the red-hot Bearcats, and taking their first series of Big 12 play, two games to one with their 10-9 victory. BYU responded to their winless Week 4 with three wins in four games in Week 5. The Cougars will play Utah Tech again tomorrow, as they look to keep their success going. This time they’ll battle the Trailblazers in St. George. They’ll then head east for a weekend series against the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Utah Tech 13-7 (0-0 in the WAC)
Tech had come into the week hot, but got caught and took one on the chin on Tuesday up in Provo. UT got smashed, 19-2. Utah Tech went from cooled off to cold when they battled against Santa Clara. On Friday, the Trailblazers fell in game one, 8-1. Game two on Saturday wasn’t any better for Tech, as they fell 4-1. Utah Tech made their final game closer on Sunday but ultimately fell, 5-4. The Trailblazers hot start has been frozen in place with their four-game losing streak this week. Tech will again play BYU this week, this time at home. They’ll then have two home games against Fresno State on Thursday and Friday. UT will then play two games on Saturday and Sunday just down I-15 at UNLV.
