The Indianapolis Colts made a major reshaping of their wide receiver room by re-signing Alec Pierce while trading longtime pass catcher Michael Pittman Jr. to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Pierce agreed to a four-year contract worth $116 million, ensuring he remains a central piece of Indianapolis’ offense. At the same time, the Colts sent Pittman and a 2026 seventh-round pick to Pittsburgh in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick.

Pittsburgh also signed Pittman to a new three-year deal worth $59 million after acquiring him.

Pierce Rewarded After Breakout Season

Pierce earned his new contract after delivering the best season of his career in 2025. The 25-year-old surpassed 1,000 receiving yards for the first time, finishing with 1,003 yards on just 47 catches.

His 21.3 yards per reception led the NFL for the second consecutive season, reinforcing his reputation as one of the league’s most dangerous deep threats. More than a third of his receptions—36.2 percent—went for at least 20 yards.

Pierce’s ability to stretch defenses also played a key role in opening running lanes for star running back Jonathan Taylor, helping Indianapolis start the 2025 season with one of the league’s most explosive offenses.

Steelers Add Reliable Veteran Target

Pittman leaves Indianapolis after six seasons with the franchise and immediately becomes a key addition to Pittsburgh’s passing attack. The 6-foot-4 receiver recorded 80 catches for 784 yards and seven touchdowns in 2025.

The Steelers plan to pair Pittman with star wideout DK Metcalf, giving the team another physical receiving option as it looks to strengthen its offense.

Pittsburgh has been searching for a consistent secondary target since trading former receiver George Pickens last offseason.

Colts Create Cap Flexibility

Moving Pittman also provides financial flexibility for Indianapolis. The trade clears roughly $24 million in salary-cap space as the team continues to build around quarterback Daniel Jones.

The Colts remained active elsewhere during the offseason as well, agreeing to deals with pass rusher Arden Key and defensive end Kwity Paye as they reshape both sides of the roster heading into the upcoming season.
