San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York reaffirmed the team’s commitment to keeping quarterback Brock Purdy long-term, saying they will do everything possible to secure a contract extension.

49ers Focused on Long-Term Deal for Purdy

York recently met with Purdy’s agent, Kyle Strongin, and expressed optimism about reaching an agreement.

“I know we want Brock to be here for a long time, and we’ll do everything we can to make that work,” York said Monday.

York spoke after a ceremony in which New Orleans handed over Super Bowl hosting duties to the San Francisco Bay Area. Levi’s Stadium will host its second Super Bowl in February 2026, after previously hosting in 2016.

49ers Looking to Bounce Back After Disappointing 2024 Season

After three straight seasons of deep playoff runs, including a heartbreaking overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in last year’s Super Bowl, the 49ers struggled in 2024. Injuries and inconsistent play led to a disappointing 6-11 record.

However, with a strong core that includes Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, Trent Williams, Nick Bosa, and Fred Warner, San Francisco believes it can contend for another Super Bowl appearance next season.

York expressed confidence in head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch to guide the team back to contention.

“There’s so much work before you get to that point,” York said. “Obviously, it started at the end of the season to get this thing ready and get this thing right and get this thing back on track. There’s no one that I respect more and trust more than John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan to get us back on track.”

Purdy Set for Major Pay Raise

Purdy’s extension is a top priority for the 49ers this offseason. He remains one of the NFL’s biggest bargains, entering the final year of the rookie contract he signed as the last pick of the 2022 draft.

Having earned under $1 million annually for his first three seasons, Purdy will receive a small raise to $5.2 million in 2025 due to the league’s proven performance escalator for Pro Bowl selections. However, his performance has far outpaced his salary, and he is now eligible for a lucrative extension that could exceed $50 million per year.

After finishing fourth in MVP voting during his first full season as a starter in 2023, Purdy’s production dipped in 2024. Injuries to key offensive playmakers affected the 49ers’ attack, and his passer rating fell nearly 17 points to 96.1. He threw for 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions but struggled in late-game situations when the 49ers had chances to win.

Despite the challenges, the organization remains fully behind him.

“Brock is just a tremendous human being,” York said. “I’m looking forward to a long-term partnership.”
