The 2023 NFL season is officially over. It is draft season! The Indianapolis Colts had a strange season in 2023. Anthony Richardson looked like a home run pick but got injured early in the season. Gardner Minshew righted the ship, and the team had a shot at a playoff spot late in the season. With Richardson at the helm, it is now time to build around him. The Indianapolis Colts have one of the easiest sets of draft picks to analyze. They own all of their own picks. Unless they wheel and deal during the draft, they will pick once in each round.

Indianapolis Colts NFL Draft Needs

The Indianapolis Colts need the following positions: CB, WR, EDGE, TE, DL

The Indianapolis Colts need some better skill positions on both sides of the ball. Defensively, getting a lockdown corner is a top priority. We’ve seen what a difference a top-tier corner can make on a team in the past couple of drafts. The Colts are in a great position to get one of the top guys.

On offense, Michael Pittman Jr. is a free agent, and it is unclear whether the team will re-sign him. Regardless, they need help at wide receiver. Richardson needs weapons around him. The running game is solid with Jonathan Taylor, but the team needs some dynamic playmakers at receiver. From there, the team needs to beef up the defensive line.

Mock Draft Analysis

The Indianapolis Colts get one of the top cornerbacks in the draft in Wiggins. He is a sticky corner who can likely be CB1 right away. While wide receiver is a huge need, Sanders out of Texas is too tantalizing to pass up. We’ve seen what a dynamic tight end can do to an offense. Travis Kelce with the Chiefs, Dalton Kincaid with the Bills, and Mark Andrews with the Ravens are all primary targets. The Colts give Richardson a top weapon at tight end.

From there, it is tricky. I don’t love the defensive line and EDGE depth in this class. They will take some swings, but I like them to focus more on the offense and try to wait for some higher-ceiling defensive players. Wilson and Whittington were on two of the top teams in the nation and are worth the late-round pick.

The Indianapolis Colts hope they can get a full season of Anthony Richardson. If he can build on the limited success of last year, this team could be fun to watch in 2024.
